It's more about your not susceptable to bad look or good play. The refs didn't make us concede from the one chance villa had. Or make us play such poor attacking football for the rest of the game. Ultimately right now we just aren't good enough up top, that's something we can control and we've been like that all season.

Refereeing standards are in the gutter and are the subject of virtually every other game. How does he respond? Find more way to bring them to the foreground and make them the centre of attention. More soft yellow cards, more soft red cards, interfere with loads of goals, don't interfere with others (but still waste everyone's time checking) get managers off the touchline, because it's all about the referees.

Reading social media and seeing people argue things like Luiz on Jesus was not a penalty etc made me realise that the fundamental problem in all this is that the English don’t actually like football very much. What they like is some form of MMA involving a ball, but the game of football as enjoyed by the rest of the continent is largely alien to them. The people breaking down play always take precedence over the people trying to make play for some reason. This absurd culture is the main reason they make up rules as they go along.

Gurgen yeah I’d agree with that. Grass roots football here is ridiculous too. My son plays under 7s and the muppet coaches and crowd roar when a strong tackle goes in.

I get most satisfaction seeing my son spot and play an intelligent pass

I don't let my under 9 team slide tackle. For starters it's poor defending and more importantly they're wild at that age and gauranteed to injure each other. If other teams play like that I tell the coach it's not acceptable.

The other day he passed across the face of the goal to a teammate - perfectly good pass which he sees a lot on telly but the coach yelled at him not to muck about with it at the back

lorddulaarsenal yea this always so frustrating to me. I've been reading Horst Wein and those he's inspired along the way, which I think is great stuff that I'm going to implement next season with the younglings. Lots of funiño and other small-sided, game-like scenarios that prioritize individual development and creative decision-making rather than systematic, results-oriented training.

@SoccerCoaches on YouTube is pretty good stuff.

Let him on. A lot of the time on my team kids over dribble and lose the ball but if they don't do that now they'll never learn to as it gets more and more tactical the older they get. I also hate coaches who shout instruction to kids on the ball, I let them figure it out and if they make the mistake tell them after. Can't learn decision making without making your own decisions.

TBF I sympathise with the coaches there. I've tried to get them not to pass across goal because it just costs goals too often. We have very mixed teams in terms of ability and some of them just aren't at the level where they can do it without giving the opposition and easy chance on goal. We're in the off season now and when we go back the teams will be graded so I'll have a stronger group and I'll be drilling them on playing out from the back then. They hate passing drills though, they think its boring and will do all sorts of stupid tricks and outside of the foot stuff to make it more interesting which usually leads to weak hospital balls, etc Not my lad though, we practice passing and touch more than anything else. If you're going to be wearing your Arsenal gear to training you have to play the Arsenal way.
