I really don't see the point at all in replacing Partey with a 28.5 year old. That seems like it would largely defeat the whole point. If we're going to get a player of this type, Amadou Onana seems like the obvious choice.

Only think I'd say about age profile is that Rice is a 24 year old who is likely to start 90% of your games and probably finish most of your games too. There isn't really much point to signing a youngster there who wouldn't get the game time to develop. You may as well have someone ready made come in who can do a good job deputising for when Rice isn't available or needs a breather.

Basically think of what the likes of Jorginho and Trossard offer us now.

not really impressed by this link. if we're replacing partey and looking for someone to partner rice, they need to be a pass master with some press resistance. rice is already a defensive bulwark, we don't really need to double down on that

this except we don't really need more reliable playmaking, Partey is plenty good. Basically need a younger, steadier less crocked Partey.

I don't think we need more 8s assuming we still have Vieira and ESR. We do need a Partey replacement and Palhinha suits it.

Although I feel with careful scouting we should be able to get someone younger and cheaper from Germany or France

Agree. Palhinha is a class player but he's the wrong profile for us. Too expensive and plays in a position where we're already well stocked.

We should avoid spending big money on players who won't be a lock in the first XI. Havertz is a sweetie-pie but it's fuckin' annoying having shelled out £65m on a player who wasn't a sure thing and isn't having an immediate impact—think about the contrast with Rice.

They're looking for a comparable fee for Paulinha and even in this topsy-turvy world, it's just not backup money.

I understand why we want him but I'd rather we kept to signing players in the right age bracket, it is a policy that works well for us and shows as a club we are being run properly.

If we didn't have Rice then I'd kind of understand but we have one of, if not the best player in that role in the World so we don't need to spend big money for someone who turns 29 next year.

Agree with everyone here saying that for the price, his combination of age and decent, but not great, passing isn't what we need. Would've been much more on board with going for Lavia if we were looking for a Partey replacement but that ship has clearly sailed. Personally, I'd rather us go for a young prospect with potential like 18 year old Gabriel Moscardo at Corinthians and let Jorginho finish the season since I don't think we will be able to find a #6 in the right age and price bracket in January. If we are looking to spend over 50m on a midfielder, I'd rather go for Douglas Luiz for the left 8 and let Rice anchor as the 6 for the rest of the season.

He seems to be extremely highly rated, although I've never watched him play. Same with Federico Redondo.

I think our squad is in a nice place where we should prioritize fewer signings going forward (superstars and wonderkids).

Our squad now like what Quincy say is actually pretty good after so many high spending windows. We should prioritise real superstars and for backups, wonderkids like Moscado.

Completely agree. The last two years we spent developing and signing quality depth. Now we just have to take 1-3 shots each window at either proven elite talents or young prospects with very high potential to continue raising our ceiling.
