That's surely on Havertz and to lesser extent Zinchenko, who plays high when we control possession? How can you blame second choice RB for shit that happens on the left side? Tomi hasn't been great, but did alright.

swider when we were chasing the game last thing you want is a mechanical defender slowly rolling the ball to the side or even worse back to the centrebacks.

Against a low block they’re the ones who need to add urgency and start to pick the lock

Do you mean the last few minutes when everyone was static and didn't show for the pass? I was a bit frustrated with Tomi at that point as possibly high risk ball was a better choice than passing sideways, however I judge him for entire 90 minutes and in that time he looked levels above any of our forward players and/or Zinchenko.

I agree with your statement, but here lies a problem, ok by his standards is clearly not good enough for top 4 or CL team and definitely not for both. We need good in a role at the very least.

swider that's what I'm saying. Even when he's not at his worst he's very ineffectual. So much so it makes sense for the opposition to focus on keeping Ode out of the game, they don't need to worry because the rest of midfield just passes around amongst themselves then.

Arteta could've done what everyone saw in the first. Make subs or shift everyone around a position. How useless were Vieira, Jesus, Havertz and Odegaard in that second half

There's a lot of things that aren't working but it's compounded by the fact that we're chasing a game and none of Odegaard, Saka and Martinelli were on the pitch. That's over 50 goals/assists worth of quality that we didn't have.

The attack we ended the game with was just tragic.

TBF I believe all of his critics are saying the same thing, and for obvious reasons. I just hope Arteta realises he has to take an L on this one and find different solution, probably Party, but fuck me it looks bad, feels bad and it is starting to cost us.

I don't see what Nelson really brings, but it certainly isn't penetration. He wants the ball to feet constantly and seems limited to looking for passing triangles and quick one-twos. He's stealing a spot in the squad right now in my view. Trossard is efticient (though not tonight), but he can't off the energy and running power of Martinelli.

Smith Rowe is a different proposition entirely, and seems to be only in contention for minutes centrally - which I'm in favour of. He doesn't give us what we miss when the big guns are missing.

For me, it's Trossard and Vieira who are the problem players in the squad roles they hold. Both are good players, but we so badly need some extra speed and one-on-one ability in the squad. We all knew it in the summer, but it never came.

We will never attack successfully with the way the team is set up without real speed and penetration out wide. Maybe we can getbaway with one of Martinelli/Saka missing against some teams, but if both are out... forget about it. The attacking patterns just won't be there.

Ricky1985 Agree with your assessments on the players but then we've massively waste our resources if we can't cope with Saka and Martinelli being injured even against a team placed 15th in the French league. Something, somewhere has gone wrong that we're still so reliant on a couple of key players despite spending as much as we have.

Zinchenko is a poor defender and he’ll continue to be targeted. If he and Arteta don’t improve his offense/game control it will be hard to justify his inclusion as a LB.

the pipeline is fecked. we've lost xhakas 2 way game. he was good at switching from box-to-box play to sitting in to protect zinchenko, who looks super exposed when playing with havertz. then theres rice as a 6 which I'm not a fan of as he's way too conservative with his deep build up play, which is something I called when we signed him. him and partey aren't miles apart overall l, but because we're so unadventurous with our passing, we are heavily reliant on parteys bravery on the ball to draw defenders in and provide line breaks. this all impacts where and when odegaard receives the ball, which in turn impacts how our forwards receive the ball.

arteta shook things up in service of very little, other than to upset the shape of the team. this looks like meticulously designed malfunction to me

All good points but our position is not irreversible.

Two simple options:

1) Just get Rice playing in a more advanced position and Partey at the base.

2) If Partey is out play ESR instead of Havertz.

Havertz shouldn’t start a league or CL game again. Enough is enough.
