RocktheCasbah I think, in specific reference to the game yesterday, to go away from home and win four zip whilst missing players like Martinelli, Partey & Timber with Trossard only being available from the bench, tells you we're probably a bit/ lot stronger than it appears right now. Look what happened to City yesterday without Rodri & de Bruyne. Away games in the PL are never a picnic.
That's true, we are dealing with some injury problems. If yesterday's performance was a one off I'd take the result and brush off the performance, but the truth is we've been off all season. All our wins have been hard fought victories where we needed to push until the last minute. This game could easily have gone the same way, and early on it looked like it might do. The result was great, the weekend was great. Our performance and set up was more of the same of what we've been producing so far in the league.
RocktheCasbah But more generally, reading through the match thread, the amount of negativity on here was such that you'd have thought we were losing the game. You guys are truly a tough crowd.
Can show me anywhere in the matchday thread during the game where I was being negative. I was on there defending Gabriel from being called brainless ffs 😆 . That said, post match analysisis where we can discuss the collective performance, individual performances, the result and what positives and negatives we can take from a game. If I can't voice my opinion about the set up and performance (which, in my opinion, can be judged separately to the result) then what's the point of OMITT. No need to jump down my throat if you disagree with my whole reasoning.
RocktheCasbah QuincyAbeyie my entire contribution to this thread was triggered (oooooh!) by Willie saying that if it wasn't for the two goals penalties we scored we'd have had a difficult game. Well, of course that could have been true, but the fact is those penalties did happen, were scored and so it's a moot point.
If you are getting so triggered by my post then maybe go back and read it again. I never said if we didn't score those penalties we "would have had a difficult game" I said the result was not "as straight forward as the score suggests". I also said that although it became easy after going 3-0 up, if it wasn't for those 2 penalities which gave us an unassailable lead, we "could have found outselves in a very tricky battle". You said it yourself, it could be true, but based on our set up and performances so far this season it's not that implausible considering its the same tricky battle we've faced in pretty much every league game so far this season. Just seems a lot of calling people negative and what have you because you've decided to nitpick on an incorrectly paraphrased point, despite agreeing that our performances on a whole so far this season have resulted in our games being less smooth and straighforward as we'd have liked. For reference the post that triggered you in its entirety is quoted below:
Coombs Think it was an awful setup. The scoreline flatters us, and we won despite Arteta's tinkering.
Big Willie Agreed. Two penalties and a lucky deflection off a wayward header that was intended to go across the box. I'll take the result but it was far from as straightforward as the score suggests. Once we were 3-0 up it was game over but without those two penalties we could have found ourselves in a very tricky battle.
.
RocktheCasbah Big Willie For the record, some of these posts seem to be making it seem like I'm being negative about our result and I'm unhappy
Well, I hate to tell you this, but yes, they very much give that impression. 😁
I'm also sorry to tell you this as well but that's a you problem. I've said numerous times throughout this thread that I am happy with the result and happy with the way the weekend has gone with us closing the gap at the top going into our game next week. Find it quite strange you trying to paint me as being overly negative when we both acknowledge that there are issues with how we've been playing and setting up throughout the season.
I wouldn't have thought I'd have to keep explaining my issues are with set up and performance, and not the actual result. Shit, there have been plenty of games in the past I've come away from being upset about the result but happy with the performance we've put in. Being able to separate the two is pretty much what discussions are for otherwise everyone would be thinking it's the end of the world after a loss or that we are the best team in the world after a win. It's what brings about discussion.
If you are happy with our performances this season including yesterday and is content to continue playing that way throughout the season, then I hope you continue to enjoy the results that bring with it. Personally I hope we don't continue like that and we play much better than what we've seen so far. But each to his/her own. Anyways this is the last I'm posting about the subject. Peace and love.
