Yeah if it's going to be big money I didn't think that's where we should allocate those resources in the summer unless we are going to have crazy money ourselves. Also the presumption we'll get some returns from outgoings but we have been so terrible at that I'm not sure that part even comes through.

Do not like the sound of that cuz not only does it suggest outs will be Eddie and Nelson, but probably ESR as well. As a January punt for less than a Havertz, it may be worth getting him, but not in the summer when Osimhen will be available, especially if the Toney transfer ends up costing quitr a bit of money.

Only issues I see with Osimhen is his injury problems if he isn't over them, and his availabitity during Afcon seasons. But the guy is more of a potential superstar than Toney will ever be.

Don't like any of this. Get him now he might be helpful but probably needs time to get up to speed, and disappoints, prior to becoming a millstone in future. Get him in summer it's too little, too late. Toney is also relatively old and has an indifferent attitude … signs are all bad to me, it all points to signing a Trossard but for Rice money. If we're going to approach £100m with a fee, let's crack it and get a superstar—and no Hojlund types for high prices, either.

Burnwinter signing Toney would be a phenomenal waste of money that the same fans who call Arteta prodigal will use as evidence that the gaffer should be hanged, drawn and quartered.

Claudius Tend to agree. As both a general principle and based on recent evidence, any signing that only might work out, or for which there's a self-evident near term horizon of purpose, or that's regarded as a courageous gamble with a cryptic plan behind it … that's a runner.

The easiest practice is to stick to Rices, Trossards and Salibas … and Toney's none of the above. Even Osimhen, who as others point out has missed about 12 matches a season on average due to injury could be a bit of a loose play.

Only players I would push the boat out for are Wirtz and Kvaratshkhelia. Everyone else is a gamble.

Claudius I wouldn't mind Wirtz but he'd only be slightly less of a gamble then Hojlund. Could easily be the next Sancho, Havertz, Werner, etc

Kvaratskhelia would be great but not sure he'd make a huge difference to our scoring problem. He's scores at a similar rate to Martinelli. Although having someone like that to rotate with Martinelli depending on form would help quite a bit.

As for Toney if he's that high up our list of preferences then get it done now rather than wait till summer. I think people are living in a bit of a dreamworld if they think we can easily sign better strikers than Toney. There certainly isn't one at the club. Toney isn't world class but apart from Osimhen who there is no strong links to from Arsenal who else out there is going to come in and score goals at the same rate straight away? Talk of him being too old is madness, he's 27. Only a year older than Jesus.

Qwiss point is with Toney, he’s probably more a floor raiser than a ceiling raiser. We have Toney in, we never have to see Eddie again. And there is definitely significant value to that. The guy is much, much better than Eddie. We’ve lost a lot of momentum by having to play Eddie in 2023 because Jesus isn’t healthy. But we aren’t getting a Salah/KDB type player. We just need to be clear what the objective is.

The thing fans have to be comfortable with is that even a floor raising striker is not cheap. We will spend over £80m for the pleasure.

Claudius he is a ceiling raiser at CF, just not as far as we'd like to see it raised. He's better than any of our CF options. He's much better than Eddie but he's also much better at CF than Jesus. We need the right players in the right positions. I'd take Toney this window and wait happily wait for a better opportunity than whats available at the moment. The striker market is so dead Real signed Joselu last summer. I thought we could get by with what we had for this season but Martinelli and Odegaards scoring form going off a cliff has exposed our lack of goals from CF. We are in a weird position right now where we could at a stretch either win the league or fall out of the top 4. I don't think investing now to push us closer to winning and further from dropping out is a bad move all things considered.

Nothing's changed here—it might be different if we were 6 points clear of City, instead of level. I can't see any way Toney turns this campaign all the way round, even if he were available, which seems doubtful.

If we're really still in the race, we're still in it with or without Toney.

suarez being a racist bothered me more than his gamesmanship. unless toney is going to get banned for this offense people need chill out. if the ref saw it he would tell him move it back. he wouldn't be red carded and banned. i hate how on corners most players (including our own) like to put the ball outside the arc on the side opposite the linesman.
