Toney shouldn't be our number one target but he's better than a of the names posted here. People don't look at the strength of the leagues players are in when they compare them Toney. And he's better than Watkins too, significantly.

He'd be fucking epic

People under-estimate Toney like they did Rice (English flamini) for an exotic foreign name

Toney's stepped up year-in and year out.

The others-

Osimhen - Would definitely take him but going to eat a large part of our budget. Seems the most proven and right age too.

Boniface - Half a season and that too only in the bundesliga. Seen quite a few players struggle to make the adjustment to PL like Werner, Sancho, Kai and others. Most interesting young striker in bundesliga looks like Openda to me not Boniface.

Gyokeres - Was in the championship till last season and the club is directing interested parties to the 100m euro release clause.

Zirkee - Interesting player and would be cheapest of the lot but very much in the 'potential' category.

Here's an interesting name for you - Isak - Newcastle have said they have to sell one of their main players at the end of the season. He'd be costing 90-100m IMO. So far been extremely prolific but a bit injury-prone.

Big no to Isak. Great player but we can't carry injury prone players in the squad.

Opposition fans often complain about our 'luck' with injuries but in actuality we've just built a sturdy squad and I'm sure that has been by design. We need to continue down that path. I'd almost argue that availability and general reliability should be the number one attribute we seek ahead of attitude, technical ability, football IQ etc.

With all that said, Toney fits that bill of being ready and generally always available for selection. Like I said in the Wishlist thread though, I'm not sure he's (or any other available 9) is worth changing our system up for. For that reason, I'd be looking for a Jesus who can finish and for me that man might be Lautaro Martinez.

Toney is not changing up our system as much as putting Kai up-front it is (With the added bonus of being a better finisher). His contrasting style from Jesus actually gives us another proper option up-front.

Toney's all round game again very overlooked here much like Rice. Excellent link-up play, Beat Gabriel/Saliba on every Ariel ball at the 1-1 draw at emirates last season, works his bollocks off. Only thing he lacked earlier was goals but becoming more and more prolific.

Gunner89 Isak is brilliant but his fitness has been a big issue.

First and major problem with Toney is his pace, he is not quicker than any CF we have at the club. That for me rules him out straight away. I think if anything we need more pace up top, we have fast players but none of them are super quick and will burn players for pace.

Then consider Brentford will want £60m or so for him, he turns 28 next month and then his lack of pace. I don't think his work rate is all that great either but that might be as he plays for Brentford. I think the lack of pace is what I can't live with, he's a very good player so will do a good job wherever he goes but he is not the player imo we should be aiming for.

Isak is great for a high line, but not sure how much fun he’d have here though against deep blocks. Reckon he’d have to play on the wing here.

goon his close control against deep defences is awesome but his injury records is really quite bad. Not sure if it's a Newcastle issue or what

Clrnc yeah I think he's quite good at creating space himself but agree about the fitness.

Gunner89 Openda is really fun to watch. He's a little smaller than I'd like leading the line but his pace, power and skill combination is better than just about everyone else listed on this thread outside of Osimhen and maybe Sesko. He just went to Leipzig for 40m if my memory serves correct and has had a great season so I doubt he would be a cheap option but he's definitely caught my eye as well.

Maybe that's true, and that people underestimated Rice, doesn't necessarily mean that every opinion of their's on a player is wrong. We've all had some pretty wild takes in the past, yourself included, as has every manager under the sun.

Rice is 3 years younger and is not a cunt.

Toney proven for two years. Rice everyone knew he would be sick since he was a kid and shoehorned to play for Chelsea.

Rice has lifted a European cup for a club that hasn’t won a trophy in 40 plus years.

Toney biggest achievement is one England cap and scoring in a play off final.

                Cant compare the two.

JazzG I don't think we need serious pace from a center forward in our system. We don't play Cesc-type final balls into runners splitting center backs. It's our wingers that need to be rapid. We need a physical presence and a reliable/crafty goalscorer up front IMO.

CPM a pacey striker isn't going to get the space in behind so yeah it's not a major concern. We need a player that can do it against a deep block.

How’ve we gone from an era with Aguero, Suarez, Benzema, Kane, Lewandowski etc. to what we have now?

There’s got to be some talent out there somewhere.
