banduan It's just the quality the have in those killer positions. Upfront you have to account for Haaland whether or not he's scoring or touching the ball. And you absolutely have to find a way to limit de Bruynes influence - a near impossible task. That finish was just top drawer. And the assist to Foden at the end? Like there are eyes at the back of his head. These guys are on a totally different level.

I would like us to be paired against Real Madrid soon. I would really like to see how control ball stands up against the best in the continent and what I see as the most fluid playing style in world football at the moment.

Have missed these long gaps in the season without CL football. Waiting for Europa to start up again was never as exciting and in the latter CL years, it never felt like we even had an outside shot given how poor our record against big teams became. Actually feels like we could have a meaningful run in the competition now.

That being said, we may face Madrid in the QF (assuming we beat Porto 🤞) and Arteta's record in Europe is mixed, so who the fuck knows!

I'm hoping its because he wasn't prioritising it much. He'll be all out if we have a game against the likes of Real or Bayern.

Qwiss yeah, that's my hope too. Financially, Europa doesn't pay off for a club with our ambitions but for multiple reasons, you'd like to think we'd take CL more seriously (and the way we acquitted ourselves in the group stage suggests this may be true).

Don Pacifico I don't fully agree with there being no pay off given the reward for winning was a coveted CL spot and there were a number of seasons when we were in the Europa that we were a long way off getting that via the league. Added to the fact all our main league rivals (obviously Spurs aside), and even West Ham can now point to winning recent European trophies. It's the one thing we're missing. Never really bought into the idea that certain trophies are beneath us or not worth winning. Chelsea and United have been quite happy winning it in recent years.

invisibleman18 agree and Arsenal have a disgraceful European trophy history so I don't think we should have be dismissing them as not worth the effort when we've barely won anything in that area
