Should be handling this group comfortably. Sevilla hardly set la liga on fire last year (and they are currently in last).. PSV are always good in Ererdivise... but its the Eredivsie.. and Lens over-performed last year, and Lens currently have 0 wins from 3 games.

Copenhagen are shit and so are Gala. They will comfortably be 2nd if not first. The Kane at OT narrative will be funny though. He has a good record there too (covid season springs to mind).

We got a nice boring Europa League draw with minimal travel which is what I was looking for.

Now it all depend when we play these teams and how they are arranged against our opponents in the league on weekends.

Looks like we've been given the easiest group. I'll take that. Should allow us not to worry about exerting too much into these group games and qualify early. Should also allow us to rotate a bit more but knowing how we operate not sure we'd rotate in the last game(s) even if it was a dead rubber.

Segway Yeah. Was a tad emotional hearing the anthem and seeing our name in the draw. As a kid when growing up, watching the draw and praying for a good draw in the groups, the KO stages was part of the memorable moments under Wenger as I felt that it was the one thing Wenger really wanted to win. Didn't realise I miss this so much and failing in UCL even in the groups really is better than failing in KO stages of Europa.

This season UCL is particularly interesting for me, because of so many classic teams in it. Gala, Lens, PSV, Union, Sociedad, Feyenoord, Lazio, Newcastle etc. Feels like the early 2000s. Just missing Valencia to complete it.

Agree, Newcastle's style of play is not suited for Europe anyway. Run n gun doesn't work as well. Their group is what i see as the group of death.. (so to speak).

and Don - yea, that is true of course. But Europa league and Champions league are very different. I could actually see them coming in second in our group though. (making the assumption we finish on top, which we have the squad to do)

That's a good group. Pleased to avoid Bayern and Barcelona who always knock us out and there will still be some suitably tough games. PSV beat us last season and Sevilla know how to win in Europe. Good to not have too much travel either with all away trips not too far.

Anyway, good group and we should have no issues with it

Good group for us, no total minnows, no total juggernauts, six decent European challenges to usher us back into this level of football as gently as you could hope.

I suspect we'll be our own worst enemies in this competition. A flogging in Spain or Germany might hit our morale, but an away loss to Sevilla or PSV would feel rather different.
