James well, if they're not, just play the next best player there. Replace Jesus with Eddie or Trossard, replace Zinchenko with Kiwior or Tierney.

Playing Partey(one of the best players in the league at CM) at RB(where he's average to poor) is like playing Saka at LB, because we need cover for Zinchenko. It hasn't made our build-up any better than when we had White there and it has cost us defensively(and I'd argue in midfield too).

I think he's best in a classical CM(box-to-box-ish) role.

He has already shown the ability to time some brilliant runs from deeper midfield into the final third to open up plays(the thing Havertz is supposed to be doing). Playing him in a more reserved role would take that away.

Well we don't have that role. We play a midfield box of two players who are like traditional 6s, and two advanced players who are essentially 10s. Rice is best suited to the former than the latter. In this team that doesn't mean he can't get forward sometimes but he operates best in a deep position in the main

Pepe LeFrits his best position for West Ham was when he was moved forward into a box to box role IMO. He looked a bit ordinary when he was deeper last season. He's an upgrade on Xhaka if you put him in last seasons system, where Xhaka was not a 10 btw. Havertz isn't and I don't think Rice upgrades on Partey deeper.

We played more or less the way Quincy suggests in the charity shield and it lead to us beating City. I don't know why that was thrown out then for the 3 games where we've looked much more disjointed as a result.

This was a setup for a game where we'd spend more time without the ball and we barely created anything in this game. We can't win league games in penalty shoot-outs.

Coombs Underlying stats suggest game was a fluke, but it's still a selection problem for me. Hard to argue against a system that produced a 3 vs .5 xG game in our favor, but Eddie and Gabriel should have started imo.

JazzG I didn't watch the game fully again shows we are dominating in terms of chances and yet still giving the opposition cheap goals.

This was the same stat against Forest.

Dunno if that shows domination. Take these stats with a pinch of salt. We may be dominating possession and territory but our game has not looked good all season. Our attack has been disjointed and our defence isn't any stronger for it. Time will tell how this goes.

You think Arteta is that easy to have his mind swayed if he sets his sights on something? Nah, I think he's gonna keep his experiement going until it either works or it reaches a stage where it's cost us too much. Hopefully it just works in the end.

Well we created a lot of chances and Nketiah scored a cracking goal, while in the corresponding fixture last season both goals we managed were flukey. The sample size is far too small to be drawing definitive conclusions.
