Meatwad same thing with him grabbing the ball, he was confused by what was going on (his teammates appealing for a pen and wondering about VAR, etc) and didn't realize the game restarted
No that didn't happen. That incident came well before the end of the game when we were appealing for the penalty. The penalty appeal was literally the last action of the game.
It was definitely stupid, however this thing happens on the field numerous times each week with defensive freekicks for offside of fouls in your own half being kicked by someone who then puts his hand on the ball to show he's the one restating the play rather than the one who gave him the ball.
Hell even goal kicks there are plenty of times where the keeper kicks it to the other player who proceeds to spot the ball, I mean that's the only reason hes standing there. Just so happens this time the ref blew his whistle. How often do refs blow the whistle for goal kicks? Hardly ever from my, albeit waning, memory.
It was definitly stupid, and could have cost us, but I doubt you'll have seen anything under the scope like that in the past. Maybe with the scrutiny on this ypu may see things like this given in the future, but there hasn't been precedent for it before.
That said, it had nothing to do with being confused about his team mates appealing or wondering about VAR, of that I'm certain.
