Something that has flown under the radar is that Brighton has rotated keepers more times than we have, with Steele starting thrice and Verbruggen starting twice. De Zerbi is also on record stating that he has two quality goalkeepers who will play 50% of the time.

Funny how the media isn't talking about that.

Dropping Ramsdale is definitely a bigger story than dropping Steele who wasn't first choice at the start of last season (and had no PL experience at that point) anyways.

The dropped goalkeeper was on the bench in all 5 league games, so it was clear rotation by Brighton.

Personally, I agree with the consensus that Raya is number 1 and there won't be the kind of rotation that Arteta is alluding to. Ramsdale will likely play in the cups and that's it.

But this idea that you can't rotate goalkeepers is a limiting belief like every other, up until you can do it. Brighton are doing it as we speak.

This guy is superb. Anticipates things so well, is agile, his handling is quality and he’s mint on the ball.

First home clean sheet of the season with Raya in goal. No coincidence.

Don Pacifico That's where I am too. Been a good start and he looks calm and composed on the ball in the sweeper sort of role behind the defence and he's played some nice long balls. But even he kicked one into the stands in our half under no pressure in the first half today and did something similar in the second half when he held onto the ball a fraction too long so it's not perfect. Two games we've dominated and he's not been under any significant pressure or really had to make a save yet so will reserve judgement on some of the more traditional aspects of goalkeeping for now. This weekend's game should be a tougher test.
Not about "wanting him to fail." Just need to see more evidence to determine a significant upgrade as he's not really been tested yet.

We can obviously compare the merits of both but let’s not start trashing one because the other is our preference. They’re both good keepers who will both hopefully still have big parts to play this seasons.

All other things equal, if this guy's distribution is better than Ramsdale's then he should play. Maybe this will lead to Ramsdale showing what he is truly capable of.

I like Rams, but I want the best for my club, even if that means that one player is going to be unhappy.

season 1 ramsdale was superb all round, including distribution. he has regressed since then. nothing too drastic, but alot of aspects have dipped e.g. shot stopping, command of his area, distribution. even with that said, a replacement goalkeeper wasn't something I would've predicted going into the summer. I hope it's not a case of our GKs being on tenterhooks 24 hours before each match day wondering if they're going to start. make it clear to ramsdale clear that raya is no. 1 until otherwise proven

Agree with Henry. Long story short, Raya taking Ramsdale place is what we all expected once we signed him, otherwise why would we even bother? It has to be because Arteta is not happy with Rams and not convinced he's the keeper that he needs.

Rotation is just an excuse, there will be a clear number 1 and 2. You don't change or rotate keepers ever

Clrnc either way, first impressions are that we’ve. Raised our ceiling and floor in one move.
Defenders are such a critical part of our attack - and this guy immediately makes us better there.

Felt like he was used as another credible passing option at the back too rather than a last resort when players had no other option
