Qwiss politely disagree.
So we have only 6 recognised defenders with Partey and Timber out right now. But 1) they can all play multiple positions, and 2) we can also do a 3 at the back if necessary, giving them opportunity to rest.
As for Havertz, I don’t see a clear alternative to him right now. Potentially, ESR. Important to emphasise that our formation is not symmetrical. The right side is about considered possession, the left side is about speed and power. To function, and support Martinelli, it requires a Left 8 who carries the ball and makes runs into the box. Havertz has always had great numbers in this regard, and had 2nd most touches in the box on Sunday. On the flip side, because of the offensive distances on that side, it also requires a committed defender.
Neither Trossard nor Vieira are these guys. Potentially ESR has the offensive directness, but his defense is not proven. So Rice at 8 with Partey/Jorginho at 6 might be the best alternative, but I don’t see Rice moving from 6.
As the games pile up, we will have to experiment. So will be interesting to see what transpires
