Not sure I agree England were poor in defence. Colombia scored a shot from outside the box and other than another 35 yard shot that produced a good save did they have a clear cut chance or just a number of shots from distance that missed the target? Certainly nothing like the chances Australia got against France. Australia arguably should have been out of sight long before extra time.

With 2 goals - a penalty and strike from outside the box - conceded in 5 games, I'm more worried about our ability to create chances. Was always going to be tough without Mead and Kirby and now James. Expect it to be an epic and very tense and nervy night.

They just look very shaky to me when teams get in or near their box. And slow. Their lack of goal threat and pace up front is also a problem which will only be worse without James. Agree it should be a cracking game and either team could win it if things go their way.

Russo's pace worries me from an Arsenal perspective. Got beat easily by Colombian defenders a few times. Not a big space player.

Coombs She's a great finisher though. I think she'll do very well for us, we create loads of chances and aren't usually given a lot of space. Blackstenius is our big space player hopefully she will stay too.

Going to be a huge ask to beat Australia there, but noone you'd rather beat. Might need the spirit of Jonny Wilkinson on that same pitch!

My missus and I got to Olympic Park in time for the shootout - watched in on a giant screen. There were several screens set up plus in the stadium. Weirdly our screen was a few seconds behind the others so we heard the result of each penalty before seeing it.

The England Colombia game was really entertaining. The crowd was packed with Colombians. Linda Caicedo is going to be a big big star - what a talent. Up there with May Fowler.

England will be very tough. Alex Greenwood is a warrior. Our girls have played so many minutes - might be hard to stay in the game towards the end and Gustavsson really has only used about 13 players.

How good is the World Cup though. Bloody brilliant.

She's been immense, and so composed and calm on the ball too. She possibly wouldn't have been in the starting side if Williamson wasn't out too, or possibly would have played left back with Daly playing further forward.
English friend of mine in Wellington managed to grab a last minute resale ticket and flight to Sydney on the day on Saturday, presumably for an astronomical amount of money. He's back at work today feeling pretty tired!

Been watching a bunch of these games - lots of incredible finished. Really struck by the rapid advance in technical level amongst the QFs and USA. Attacking players are especially brilliant. One thing that stands out is goalkeeping. Quality hasn’t kept up with the outfield players. Wonder if this a specific gap in the game that is the next push forward

goalkeepers on the women's side will always be at a disadvantage. they're playing with the same goal dimensions, but are generally smaller than men.

Meatwad And women's gk standards have been improved this edition. Quite a number of impressive performances already.

Certainly Arsenal could do with an upgraded goalie from one of these nations.

Meatwad i thought about this during Australia vs. France. Australia missed three of their pens and France four. The shooter is at a bigger advantage in penalty shootouts in women's comps than men's, so the xG on penalties should theoretically be higher.

Clrnc I agree there have definitely been some excellent gk performances.
It's been such a fantastic tournament on so many levels; the quality of play, some epic matches and pretty big upsets; huge crowds at games (especially here) and watching; some really inspiring media stories; and of course the Matildas having their best ever performance. Aside from hoping we can go all the way, I also hope this success is leveraged into proper investment and further progress toward equality in the women's game here. As someone who's had a daughter involved at high levels of football, it's very obvious that there is still a massive gap to close in that regard, but hopefully we're witnessing a big moment of change.

Panda she's incredibly hard working too. She seemed to pop up everywhere on the pitch throwing herself about. And even with the lack of pace still peeled away from the defender and buried the winner. Excited to have her and especially Ilestedt too based on this tournament.

Game suddenly comes to life in the last 10 minutes. Good strike but keeper probably should save that. Goes back to that point of the women keepers generally being shorter than men.

Daz I like Ellie Carpenter's game. But yeah plenty of interesting players for Arsenal to consider, especially from the smaller nations.

Feels like Arsenal always lacks pace and power, might be good to look into the Colombian and Nigerian players who really impressed
