I don't think apart from Kvara any wide player has given him a rough ride and even he only managed it for 20-25 min and didn't get a sniff for the rest of the tie. Came out over the summer he was playing around then carrying an injury as well, a warrior for us.

Unbelievable player, remember when we signed him it came out of nowhere and a few thought it might be a waste of resources but he's been so good. A shame White has had so many injuries, White defo better going forward but Timber is an absolute beast defensively.

Tactics

I think it's fair to say he's excellent in 2/3 of the pitch and "only good" in the final 3rd. I'd say he's best in a role that requires him to defend and progress the ball up to the midfield area, which points to a CB role.

In short, he's playing out of position IMO and huge credit to him that he's in the conversation for the best RB in the league.

Thing is nobody can convince me that him and Calafiori, both who are recognised as CBs are playing out of position. If Timber was top tier in attack we'd be talking about an all time great here but clearly his attacking ability is a few levels below his defending. I think this is just a new role which has developed over the past few years.

I think Timber’s attacking has already improved this season vs last. Look at his shot on goal this week or the penalty he won or the way he dribbled past Newcastle last week

What’s really missing is the connection with Saka to really overload the final third. That will come with time.

There's probably few "world class" fullbacks than any other position. It's not the most critical position, and its also hard to stamp out a massive role. I bring this up to say I can't think of many fullbacks ahead of him - perhaps Hakimi and Trent (if you accept their limitations and think your system comes out ahead), but Timber is as good as it gets regardless of his final third contributions. If he was more involved there he'd only be getting in Saka's way!

Part of why Timber appears outstanding in his position is because in Arteta's approach the FB position is where the gravy is. Both Ricky and Timber now are a big part of how we move and create as a team.

Yeah, i was watching that thinking "its like he's playing against an U21 side here" when he just ran through everyone. Seriously, probably one of the top 3 or 4 RB's in the world at the moment. He's going from strength to strength. Benny is gonna have a near impossible task of getting back into the team as anything but a sub.

USArsenal white had a good game today too. Nice diagonal passes. Timber is fantastic though, I can't think of anyone better than him right now

tazmania I was actually quite pleased with White’s performance and thought he looked more like his usual self. Had a good 70 mins too.

Then Timber came on and raised the level in an instant.
