Just rewatched the goal and Rice has a huge part to be blamed for that. He shouted to let go and no danger when he could easily just head it out.

rice has been poor for a month, this is just another game in what has turned into an untimely dip in form. I don't think he's out classed at CL level. I've seen henderson and wijnaldum boss things in this tournament. it's all about the set up and being physically and mentally prepared. plenty of learnings to be had on that front

Qwiss yep. English centre mids never control the tempo of games in the CL. they're either high work rate team players ala henderson or they're goal hangers ala Steve me/fat frank. bellingham may break the mould but I feel like he's going to end up the Stevie me route. just give them a few simple instructions that dont push out of their wheelhouse and theyll be excellent cogs in the team. you have to pair them with the modrics and barellas of the world to alleviate them of technical world-building responsibility

Rice continually gets into scoring positions, but you pretty much know 9 times in 10 it's more a way of creating a chance on the rebound. He is at least getting many of them on target and working defences and keepers.

Burnwinter I know it's an unpopular opinion these days, but I was really annoyed when Rice was in those positions instead of a proper forward. I don't think it's a good strategy at all.
