Anticipating the ball when it's played to someone directly in front of you is pretty basic stuff, the real skill or talent is whether can be quicker than your opponent to get to the ball whilst being further away from the ball path.

Rice is getting forward much more often and with more conviction now. His technical brilliance means he will get quite a few more goals before the season is over.

I think we've finally found the heir to PV4. Might actually be superior in the long run. Fantastic player.

flobaba if he gets a longterm run in this all rounder number 8 role, he'll be universally seen as the best midfielder in the league. he can be an absolute beast in this role

The only thing left in his game is to sharpen his long shots prowess. Imagine he has the shooting abilities of Lampard/Gerrard in his locker.

Is Rice the answer to the LCM problem? He is seriously impressive when he presses high, another reason we are able to win the ball back so quickly. We knew he could play both roles to a high standard. Definitely gives us options in the midfield.

Panda yeah thats what I'd like. Someone who's a bit Partey and a bit Jorginho and sure maybe even a bit Gilberto too. Not sure that player exists but basically I think we need a tempo setter who can find quick clever passes to the attack even under pressure.

Panda Definitely, although I am struggling to think of someone as even half intelligent as Jorginho with his supreme passing technique.

There's tons of Onanas around but a lack of Rodri/Jorg. De Jong or Kimmich comes closest but they also most keep it short. Not sure how is Neves level like now after playing in Saudi or maybe we can go back for Locatelli. Might also keep a close eye on Varela who looked really good against us in the first leg

Panda when we press high, and the opponent manages to get pass the front 3, they make that pass and so many times Rice just comes from nowhere and nicks the ball. I love it.

A younger non-rapey Jorginho, with a little more athleticism would be perfect.

goon thats who Henry compared him to as well. Said it was like when Yaya left Barca.

I always wanted him as the 8. Moyes made the same move last season and Rices form picked up then too. Getting someone like Zubemndi into the midfield would be interesting because he can also play both roles, same with DeJong. Would give us a lot of tactical flexibility.

Another one i thought we paid too much for , but damn he has raised our midfield and our game some levels. Just need to move Partey on and find a player with similar impact to Rice

Maybe his best performance as an 8. Can see he is getting a lot more comfortable in the role now... Starting to see a lot more of his trademark ball carries, positioning and timing his runs into the box. You can tell he is loving it.

So unlucky with that shot that hit the bar, would have been an unbelievable goal. You know how good he has been that nobody even mentions his price tag any more. Jamie Carragher compared it to Van Dijk and that is a good shout, he came in with a massive price tag and some thinking it was too much but within 6 months nobody talked about the transfer fee.

Now playing higher up showing another side to his game. 10+ G/A this season already, think he could get to 10 goals as well which would be unreal for someone in
