MistaT I agree with what Jazz said but I also don't believe that you buy Declan Rice if you don't want him to utilise some of the talents that have given him the profile he has today.

Don Pacifico We have Partey in the squad so when we have all our defenders back maybe the intension was to sometimes let Rice move higher up the pitch when needed.

In a way not having Partey right now is good for Rice, he can play every match in his preferred position without trying to fit both into the team.

Clrnc Partey does well in the way he sucks player in and dribble away but can gift the ball sometimes.

Funnily enough I was just looking out our passing stats and there is barely a difference between them for the season 91.6 for Rice and 91.4 for Partey.

Rice was tremendous against United, easily his best game yet for us.

It helps Partey to play from a bit deeper, with more time and less responsibility. Ordinarily, he's roughly an 85% passer.

Ricky1985 yeah I'm not really one for pass % stats as they don't tell much on their own but I was very surprised at Parteys stats from right back this season, you don't see many with that high a %. I usually find over 90% is a sign of a lack of adventurous passing but not always, see Vieiras 100% this season.

Ricky1985 we’ve also attacked the half space directly from the back less this season. Those are the passes that piss fans off if they fail but accelerate the offense if they succeed. We’ve tended to go wide and then back through the CMs to switch.

JazzG well Rice said the other day that he has been training as an 8 so I'd say we'll see a bit throughout the season. I wouldn't have been surprised if Arteta had gone with it yesterday had Partey been fit

Pepe LeFrits True and in big games we'd probably want those two in the middle. But I'm not entirely sure the No.8 is his best position, you can see with his insane interception skills that he's better deeper.

It's definitely not, but I'd understand him going with the pairing against a counter attacking side like United or against City who always kill us in transition

Think I'd prefer Partey as 8 and Rice as 6.

QuincyAbeyie Rice has a better engine and gets around more, Partey is the more incisive passer and we have missed his balls from deep to Ode, Saka and Martinelli. I'd go Rice 8 if we're picking, more goal threat too.

QuincyAbeyie Rice could carry the ball in advanced areas though. His biggest strength. In fact even as a 6 he carried possession forward many times yesterday

Clrnc true, but on the other hand, Partey could play those passes of his while knowing that Rice was behind him, covering.

No matter who would play what, they should be dynamic about it. Partey covering if Rice is carrying the ball forward etc.

Don't think we will see as much ball carrying with him just because of the way we play but it's a good weapon to have in his locker

What I'm most excited about his is how far he can progress. He has played in some really shit teams... Looks like a really quick learner though, once he comes on more tactically with Arteta guiding him, could become massively more dominant which is a scary thought.

Arteta misses out on nomination over Ange, Ramsdale not nominated for goalie as well.

Clrnc every one of those players except Brozović won a trophy last year. We need to win things for our players to be recognised.
