The biggest compliment I can give Rice is that he's exactly the kind of signing Alex Ferguson would have made in the late 90s or early 00s: he went out and got the absolute best domestic player he could and didn't give a shit about the cost, and then United had an absolute bastard of a player for a solid decade who was already Premier League proven and helped them win 3-4 league titles. It used to drive me mad. United needs a new defender? Let's just pick up Rio. Midfield needs some bolstering? Let's get Carrick. Rooney breaks through? Let's sign him. Etc. Greedy transfer alrogithm.
Still can't believe we signed Rice, but I'm so glad we did. I knew the fee we paid would look like a bargain. He's going to win more than one title with us during his time here.
