I think so too. If he had gone to Real in 2002 or 2003 he would have been a club legend for them, probably with 3-4 CL trophies under his belt. They wanted him so badly to complete that galactico team too.

Rice is a machine, a bit under-rated here I feel

Eh, his machinability is overrated in my opinion. His powerful running to recover is displayed maybe twice or three times a game. But when he gets gassed, his legs dissolve like all the others. Should have been taken off right after the obvious lung bursting recovery run he made late in the game. We needed legs.

It's not the worst shout. Considering signings since January 1, 2001, Campbell, Lehmann, Aubameyang, Saliba and Gabriel would all be in the conversation. Probably others I'm forgetting.

If Rice were to win a string of major trophies with us a few other current players might be in the reckoning with him by the time the dust settles.

Sicario2 His average pass completion is 88%, which is higher than Rice's of 84%. Not bad considering he has the most responsibility when we're beating the press.

That said, I'm not saying Zubimendi is a better player than Rice, and I don't believe that. I'm saying Zubimendi is harder to back-fill in our XI if absent. We don't have any other player who excels at 6 for now.
