Of course, I don't even need to interpret any sort of meaning, it was quite clear in what he wrote.

Sicario2 I loved Vieira as a captain but it is always good to see an Englishman captain an English club like Adams did.

In any case, regardless of what anyone thinks the pecking order should be, rightly or wrongly, it's clearly Ode then Saka (an Englishman btw) then Gabriel. Until we change Arteta, or the others move on I don't see Rice being captain any time soon.

No, I did not call you racist. I was referring to the whole needing an English captain for an English side talk. As if that matters to a multinational squad supported by millions and millions across the globe with the majority of those millions of supporters not being English. It's all cliches trotted out by the old guard and not applicable to how football has changed over the last 25-30 years.

Captaincy has to do with leadership, not nationality.

Your argument would have been clearer if you'd just stayed in that lane. But then you went to winger, being a "bad choice", and Gabriel lacking "English" being a hindrance. David Beckham was captain of England for a while, then Rooney, now Harry Kane. No one's ever had an issue with their on field positions.

Mirth The rhetoric on this forum has been getting nastier and nastier over the last year. I used to love posting here and reading the back and forth but it sucked the fun out of it for me this summer and hasn't been much better since the season started. Not blaming any one poster but I think we can all do a lot better job of taking the temperature down a lot here. Otherwise, it's just not a very appealing community these days.

Mirth He wears his heart on his sleeve and is a bit over the top but I don't agree that his words are poison. Do we want a forum full of people who all talk the same and think the same? He loves and cares about the Arsenal and that is what brings us all here.

samthegooner I don't really mind the bickering all that much. I actually think it's OK to get into it a bit every now and then. I agree it shouldn't be all the time in every thread, though. I've been guilty of getting too hot plenty of times myself.

The world is pretty hard to live in right now. Not so surprising that OMitT reflects that a bit. And I'd also argue that it's not completely unhealthy, either. As long as we can move on without too much resentment.

That we aren't being algorithmically fed to each other is the great relief of this place, for me.

Mirth one of the things I like about this forum is that when someone bangs on about something like Rice becoming captain most people cut through the underlying chauvinism of it. Sicario can have his basic ass twitter opinions, we can question them and I don't think that's a big deal.

To me it's enough punishment to be discussed as a question by those around you. I would not be in favour of banning or disciplining Sicario based on what amounts to interpolation.

If the whole Rice captain thing and the Saka villain thing find their ground in a broader unspoken racism of football and England, it's not clear to me whipping one bloke for what's guessed to be a cryptic instance of this on this little forum achieves much. Or at least you can just whip him and move on.

We do have a few very robust discussions on here and I tend to go in with studs raised, I think it's okay myself, it's a sign of the longevity and trust here such as they are.
