I'm not worried about Spurs longer term. It's just galling they're ahead of us at present.

To truly reach our level Spurs would require an ongoing campaign of investment to match what they wasted on that schlepper Conte, where they spent £150m in a summer before he decided his real job was repeatedly gathering the toys back up in order to throw them out of the pram again.

is pretty clear. All I am saying is, Spurs being two points ahead of us really shouldn't be a worry for anyone in October (or, if you prefer, November). Six months time? Sure, but not worth worrying about now.

RocktheCasbah I'm only trying to explain why nobody seems to be thrilled about our season so far. The slightly dull performances, despite the results, are likely the primary reason, but I don't think you can discount the effect of a Spurs-led table on Arsenal fans, in general. It's hard to be as effusive in your praise, as it feels sort of embarrassing or risky.

Dull, yes but I think the dullness is a function of how ineffective we look offensively. I feel like we're operating on fine margins (ie. our chance creation is more equivalent to the 2nd half of last season than it is the 1st half) and that is the bit that concerns me because if we don't improve that, the odds are that our results will start to decline as our 'luck' runs out.

Spurs aren't top because we did something wrong. It's not like we sold them Maddison and they've benefited massively as a result. We've had another excellent start to the season, yet the atmosphere this year feels far more negative. I get it, Spurs are top, but somehow I don't think it would be much different if it were City instead. In fact, it wasn't different when that was actually the case earlier in the season.

I think last season people were elated all season long regardless of our eventual finish, because we exceeded expectations. Now that expectations have caught up to reality, I don't think the vast majority would be happy unless we win the title.

I think heightened expectations are also a cause. I called it last year.

It's why I was so desperate to get to games last year because I knew the atmosphere in the stadium would evolve as expectations grow.

The excitement and enthusiasm will pick up as the season goes on.

Sure, but the good football came with quite a bit of chaos. The reason for me why we lost the title was because of our porous defence.

If you want to strengthen the defence, then it will come at the expense of the attack. That might not be enough to win the league this time around either, but it's definitely a logical step to me. To bring some control to the chaos.

I don't think we're doing it perfectly either, but it'd be foolish to think we'd have it nailed in ten games.

My prediction is that we will finish 3-5 in the league and will be irrelevant in all other competitions.

For me it started being not good enough when he brought in Havertz and decided to rely on Nketiah. Then, from the begining of the this season we started playing worse and I believe we've been very fortunate when it comes to results and I fully expect it to change soon.
I do not think he will achieve anything with us anytime soon, so I do not care if he gets replaced at the end of the season. And if my prediction turns out to be correct one I do not think many supporters would care either.
I hope he proves me wrong though, I just really do no not see it happening.

It's looking like a Jekyll and Hyde season. Tifo had a decent video on "Are Arsenal worse?" come out.

Their mistake was the suggestion we'll be good in knockout competitions this season due to our great defence. That'll only apply if we don't have our B team out there. Our typical B team is not great in any department, and will attract game-raising enthusiasm from every opponent due to its flaws.

Meanwhile, I would say our first XI has arguable missing pieces, but is a physical, versatile lineup yet to hit its stride, tactical changes or otherwise. We can still go on to successes with our best side out there.

Frankly we should aim to win the league this year, our chance is no worse than last year this time. I don't accept Arteta can't learn and improve us tactically even in the next week or two, and we have mostly brilliant personnel, the oddity of the midfield notwithstanding. Shoot for the moon.

We're "on track" at the moment but don't look like a sure thing ...

Sicario2 - Tier 1

Top of the league and top of our CL group by Dec 1st. This has def exceeded my expectations esp the former.

Xmas period needs to be navigated but we are looking good boys (and girls).

My biggest concern going into the season was lack of defensive depth but we’ve managed to get away with that so far some how (touch wood).

Havertz playing well and being useful is huge as well imo. Raya getting better and better will hopefully put an end to this stupid goalkeeper drama we’ve been having as well.

Upwards and onwards folks.

Champions league progress fairly comfortably is good but with the group we got you would have like to believe we were easily the best team. Top of the league coming into December it's nice though even if it's very tight at the top at the moment. I am still concerned that the attack as it is will not be good enough for a title win but we hopefully can do something to rectify that.

City don’t seem to be as good as they were last season. Think our chances of winning the title are as high as they were last season.

I do worry about Spurs though. When they have players fit they’ll play good football.

Think things will click for us attacking wise as soon as Odegaard picks up form
