Qwiss yeah. I played a few weeks ago. The first ten years were around, 84 points, then the next ten (Roman era) was 88 points. And the last few years post Leicester have been about 94 points. Just a different world.

But you see the rest of the top teams and you see that the top 3-4 isn’t going up. The rich are stretching out.

Qwiss Yeah, which is why I agreed with you. 89 points won't really win you the title unless the other contenders shat the bed. We can't really complain.

The gap between the rich and the poor has been widening and points tallies is much easier to go higher these days. If the league doesn't do something about it to stop the cheats then the product itself is finished.

Clrnc I don't think it's a matter of the gap between rich and poor growing. I just think football has become so rational and systematic that performance levels for the top teams have become much more consistent. Teams are less reliant on individuals and performances on the day; football is a science now, and teams have tactical schemas and 'game models' that optimize the talent advantage the rich teams have and turn that into results.

Clrnc Nobody does 99 points season. 91-92 is the norm for league winners.

Point is you've gotta aspire to it to get near it. If we're on 50 points at the end of 2024 we'll have a great shot at it.

goon yup. We were struggling badly in the first half. That's why almost everyone was screaming for a striker. We weren't creating as much, and probably our finishing was also not great.

All teams have access to tactics and science. Teams like Brentford, for example, are known to lead on the use of data; which has helped them gain promotion and stay up. But at the end of the day, football is about winning zonal and situational battles in every game. If your team is well coached and consistently has better players in these different zones of the field in every game, then you increase the chances of winning consistently.

This is what City is doing, and nobody else has done. The well run teams (Pool and Arsenal), just haven’t had the depth in talent to keep that consistently high dominance within games, and across seasons.

My feelings might change by the end of the window, but next season I'm thinking minimum second and 90+ points, and a CL semifinal to feel satisfied. If we stage a re-run of this season, it'll probably be a commendable effort but it wouldn't spark joy. However, as a fan I'd take one more season as bridesmaids so long as there was incremental improvement.

Burnwinter We absolutely have to keep improving. The weak points are clear, even if we only do 2/3s of whats needed it should improve us a lot.

Burnwinter Anything less than winning the Prem will be disappointing next year for me. The window with this team will not go on forever – Arteta's training, style of play, etc. is physically and mentally intense, and at a certain point it will take its toll on our core players.

CPM I hear you and agree, but if we run out and earn 93 points and we still don't win it, I'd rather remain optimistic.

Given the possibility of City getting sanctioned (finally), there's at least some chance that no rival side can get to 90 next season.

@QuincyAbeyie, worth taking a look. You were nervous about how we don’t sign well earlier this year.

Claudius according to their valuations we should be getting £20m more for Jesus than we paid for him. No wonder we are open to offers. We'll also be getting £30m for Eddie, £15m for Reiss, £20m for Partey, £25m for Ramsdale and £42m for Zinchenko.

Mbappe is back on the table after all that.

Qwiss yup. But all team’s valuations have the same inflation.
At the end of the day, the value that matters is the offer someone else puts on the table. And that can be impacted by their needs and how much you pay players - ie, the more we renew our players, the higher the total cost of ownership becomes for a buying club, which forces lower transfer fees. That’s why timing on selling vs extending people like ESR, Nketiah, Ramsdale, Nelson etc is important.
