Kai Havertz has scored as many goals in his last seven matches for Arsenal as he had in his previous 40 games combined (4).
He's got far more work to do to justify his price tag, but sustaining this rate of output would certainly do it. All he needs for cult hero status this season is ten league goals. His physicality means he's never gonna look "sharp" no matter what he does.
As Jorginho put it in a recent interview:
“He has intelligence. It’s funny because you look at him and you think he’s not fast and he’s fast, and then you think he’s not strong because maybe he looks skinny, but then he goes to the challenge and he’s strong.
“So maybe it takes a little while for people to understand his qualities and what he brings to the team, but how much effort he puts in and how much hard work he put in and his qualities just come out all of a sudden when his confidence is high as everyone else.
“But his intelligence, his technique, his finishing — when he finishes, I swear to you, it looks like he just like, put it there, like he doesn’t care. And then the ball goes to the corner and I’m like, how do you do that?”
I guess George has a bit of skin in the game, given that he seems to have advocated for the transfer with both Arteta and Havertz. But as he says, Kai is a counterintuitive type. Fast but looks slow, precise but looks awkward, strong but looks clumsy, hard-working but looks wildly unconfident.
