this wasn't about edu for me because i believe his only role at the club right now is to do what arteta wants. that's how the kroenkes want it. i trusted arteta because the team he deployed in 2022-23 was damn good and if he felt havertz was the man for that #8 role, then maybe i'm just missing something and he's earned the benefit of the doubt as the highly paid expert. he must have a grand plan for him. he didn't and now he's lost that credit and needs to be stripped of his player acquisition responsibilities.

KingslandBarge nobody ever really knows this stuff. Can argue that Mudryk was the preferred option over Trossard but that’s about it

Nah, this was his best game. Look, I’ve said he was shit from day 1 and hated his body language but today he was clearly up for it so can’t fault him.

Tbh he couldn’t hide in a game like this when he was coming in for our captain. He simply had to perform. I am more worried how he will do in a small game like Burnely at home.

Looks like my eyes didn't deceive me with respect to total duels won. Won the most contests for the team in a highly physical game. Exactly the kind of fight we needed in a game like this.

Sky had a statistic on show around the 60th min mark where he had the most pressures of any player on the pitch with the next 4 players all from Newscastle. I've not seen any statistic on most miles ran but I wouldn't be surprised if he was also one of the highest.

Newcastle tried to bully us and he was one of the reasons we stood firm and fought back. There's plenty of other games to have gone for him, but today wasn't that day.

daredevil it's a very low bar we've set for our 65m attacking mid. he didn't shirk the figt is about the most we can say for him today. unfortunately he's occupying a position thats key to our creative game and he's doing nothing on that front. the rest of our attacking unit have been below par too, but they've at least contributed SOME goals and assists

He made 23 passes all game. Not one key pass. That's our attacking mid. That's not good enough at all.

It was 33 passes and he set Nketiah through on goal, only for Eddie to be muscled off the ball.

That's also ignoring that we don't play through the centre anymore to exploit the AM and favour going wide early, yet despite that Saka only had 3 more passes than him.

Goal probability added is basically a sum assigned to each player based on whether each involvement increase or decrease the probability of a goal being scored. It's an interesting (and flawed) indicator, and I don't think I've ever seen a player in the ten position have by far the lowest number in a match. It basically supports what everyone is saying in here. Havertz' involvements on the ball are negative. When he's on the ball, the probability of scoring is reduced.

As for the eye test, I can't stand his poor close control, sloppy passing, and overly cautious decision making.

I agree, there is some creative and goalscoring burden on him and overall he's not doing enough on that front.

I feel bad for Kai. Looks a nice fella but is completely out of his depth. Disastrous use of money from Arteta.

The problem is this may well be his best performance but it's not enough for the money shelled out on him. He needed to be directly contributing to an attacking sense and he hasn't done that. His best game is yeah he's sort of okay without doing anything.

Clrnc sure, but it may be an indicator that he's gaining a bit in confidence and figuring out his role. I took thought this was a better game for him. Sure it wasn't prime Odegaard but I think he was a lot less passive and was involved in some decent interplay.

Still got it all to prove but his performance was one of the small positives to take out of this game.

The only thing I enjoy about him at the moment is the sense he might injure an opposition player.

Jesus which game was his worst if people are saying this was his "best?" Like Raya, the signing never made any sense and it's looking like being a massive flop. And given he was a massive flop at Chelsea it's hardly any surprise how it's turning out. The bar was low for signings from Chelsea yet astonishingly we've managed to lower it from even Willian.
