He's been quite average the entire season bar those magic moments in the CL, hence why people forget there's actually a good player in there. You can never get enough of Brazilian sambas in your team. This guy has more pausa than Martinelli ffs.

I will keep him and build on the squad. Plenty of players to get rid of. Nelson, Nketiah, Partey etc before we go onto Jesus.

Mirth I agree. Havertz stays as a striker for me and you get another guy in. Who you get depends on the market, how you feel about the guys available, etc but Havertz is a reliable striker. He's a little Giroud-esque and I really like that. But with Giroud we were always lacking that extra level and that different option. Feels like we are in the same boat with Havertz.

Disagree with Pepe and Goon. Jesus wasn't as prolific as Trossard this season either and if we get in the left winger I'd like I'm not sure what I'd do with Trossard either. Feels more reliable off the bench and in rotation than Jesus though.

Jesus is one of those good problems to have really. Bags of talent, still in his prime, and will probably be motivated to push ahead with his body and mind over the summer. His wages are high, but not Ronaldo, Rashford or De Jong high.

If Jesus comes back at his peak after the break, we've got a starter, with Havertz dropping back or acting as the league's most envied utility player. If not then Jesus can still get lots of playing time, both wide left, and across an expanded European fixture list and the cups.

I suspect we'd listen to offers but if as we assume they're not forthcoming, we're just in the unfamiliar position of having a strong enough XI we're benching a man we were gagging to sign two or three seasons ago.

His biggest problem is fitness, if he can last a season I’m sure there is still a very valuable player in there. But I doubt he can.

The fact that his knee issue is still ongoing some 18 months after the initial injury is a concern.

Yeah the knee issue can't be discounted it may never go away. Jesus it'st the same player we saw at city he wasn't good enough to be a forward he was moved to the wing. He's the same player here he's never going to be a goalscorer. So what's his place in the team, more a squad player?

Jesus has a summer now to get any minor ops done and get his fitness up to scratch but it is very worrying that since that knee injury he has struggled on the pitch and with injuries. Prior to that injury this guy was superb for us, looked one of the best players in the league. Never got anywhere near close to that form again though.

I didn’t see it as haven’t watched the highlights and I was too far up in the stands on the day to see players emotions but apparently Havertz was crying after the Everton because we lost the title?

That is monumental for me.

Now he is one of us, a true gooner that we are going to back all the way next season.

Thanks for sharing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Arsenal player cry before. Even though us fans prob thought it was a less than 5% chance of the title on Sunday, poor Mikel must have made them all believe it could have still happened and the players clearly bought into it. I feel bad for them now.

Kai goes up in my estimations and one of my favourite players now.

Said it earlier in this thread and another this Arsenal team is different. When Havertz scored his goal he didn't even celebrate. At the end it looked like we had lost a cup final, players were absolutely devastated. Different mentality around this place, we used to celebrate 4th place. This team have a steely determination about them, they want that title.

The whole team will be in a different state come August and hard to have the same feelings we had in May. Mikel has a very important job of reminding them and using this season as motivation.

We can’t be drawing 2-2 to Fulham 4th game in.

Don't think the players will lose any hunger, they'll come back probably even more desperate to win. I honestly think if we can go out and do good business this summer we'll tear shit up next season.

It is really something to see how much growth our team has shown in the past 2-3 seasons. The players bought into Arteta, Arteta is building the team he wants and that he knows can challenge the best. We are already right there, we just need a couple key players to unlock another level. This season was a level above last season (no bottling this year, we ran it to the end). Club management is not shying away from spending money to bring the players that Arteta wants in (and it's already shown to be good business). I think we will have another 150-200 this summer BEFORE sales, and if we can move some fringe players on, thats more to spend on true quality. Striker, winger, CM and potentially a young but talented CB. (oh, and a backup keeper). 200+ can fill those spots. And the biggest change is.... we are a destination team now. We are on the up, on the cusp of winning things, competing with the best. We are not a 'springboard/development' team. And we are young with most of our spine not even into their prime years yet.

These are key points for me too. The banter era is well and truly over. Even allowing for bias, how many teams would be above us currently in terms of attractive clubs for both a) ambitious newer talents; & b) serious established pros looking to step up or take on a new challenge?

When facing with a machine like City, you have to be on it from day 1. You cannot afford to drop easy points otherwise its fatal.

I remember there was 1 or 2 theories here that we intentionally sacrificed the first half of the season so we will peak for CL and the run in. Maybe we sacrificed too much? Didn't seem like we were in any peak physical condition against Villa and Bayern anyway

In all honesty, he did lose the plot there. We lost the title by 2 bloody points. TWO. No way is a draw in GW 4 a reason to give up and write yourself out of the hunt for the title. Especially considering we also drew against Spurs and Chelsea (ignoring two good away draws to City and Liverpool), as well as losing to Newcastle, Villa twice, Fulham pt2.

On that note, looking back at the games I listed, what an amazing season that was. What consistency we showed against the whole league and in particular against all our biggest rivals and challenges. 5 draws the whole season, two of which were away to our title rivals, and two against traditional top 6 in London derbys. We also had 5 losses unfortunately however these could easily be rectified, with every one of those games (Fulham pt 2 aside) being games our performance would have resulted in an easy win had we replayed the game 9 times out of 10. Not to mention the Newcastle game which was daylight robbery.

This I don't think is the case. I disagreed with it at the time and I still disagree with it. No way were we deliberately playing the way we were earlier on in the season struggling to win games and create chances. However we did manage to get through it still within touching distance. Our end of season run was next level though. Whilst we can easily improve our results in the games we dropped points it to those weaker teams, it'll be a challenge keeping the win record we had against the rest of the league like we did this season. But I have no doubt we'll be up for it.
