Qwiss I mean the problem first and foremost was the price we paid for him given that we already knew we needed a forward in the summer and we added another hard worker off the ball. That is not a good use of resources with the problems the team has. Havertz would be fine for a 20m punt but even then I don't think his recruitment was a priority for this team.

the opportunity cost of spending that 65m on havertz still rankles me. he hasn't really solved any glaring problems in the team, he's just added some floor-raising versatility

He’s a bit of a weird one. If you look at the games we do well in, his off the ball work and other players finding him is off the charts. He also acts as a pivot to help advance others. When we struggle, there is nobody connecting with his runs. Happened yesterday. But a lot of the Kai problems happened before him, lower down the field. If anything, this was possibly a game for Jesus earlier on given how deep we were. We lacked upfield connective tissue.

We played with quite a bit of fear, afraid to lose the ball and try risky passes into space.

Some nice touches from him tonight but what really sets him apart is his movement and positioning. Constantly getting into the right spaces and making the run runs. Great asset.

Yeah, even when he's unclinical he's always a nightmare for defenders due to his persistent runs and ability to take down almost any high ball and keep it.

The guy must be a nightmare for defenders to track. Constantly on the move. And often finding excellent positions for teammates to pass into. He deserved the goals after getting into many opportunities.

Big difference between him and Jesus right now is that our players know which zones to release Havertz into dangerous spaces in, whereas Jesus is often in the position to release someone into those spaces.

Jesus seems allergic to taking up positions that you'd expect a striker to be in.

His decision making in front of goal is still suspect and he's not proven that he can do it against the best in Europe but ultimately if a new shiny toy was posting those numbers we'd be very happy.

Really depends on if you think this is his peak or if he can go up a level. Personally I think he's got another level to unlock.

Meatwad From what I can tell, we'll be hoping for that same bet even if we get someone in from outside.

We should probably still take that bet to improve our odds to have one good striker but there's definitely a roll of the dice either way.

7 goals and 4 assists in his last 10 games, the majority in the centre forward role. Seems fine to me. Solve the centre mid with a fit Partey replacement and get an elite left wing.

The difference to 6 months ago is huge. If he'd had a first half that bad then he'd have disappeared. Instead now he keeps plugging away with run after run and eventually gets his reward.

CPM

I would have no problem with Kai as our starting CF next year. Left wing is a much bigger problem for us.

A positive is that I see his biggest fault as waiting too long to shoot, or hesitating to the point where he needs to pass instead. It sounds like a fixable problem to me.

havertz and jesus are providing modern day version of the 'who was better - giroud or lacazette?' debates. I think when both are on it, theyre very useful players and the overall impact they make is roughly the same, but neither are the quite level we need.
