We’re into his 4th season now. Across the first three, he’s been out for roughly half of it, and in the 1.5 seasons time he’s actually been available, he’s oscillated b/w looking genuinely good and missing sitter after sitter. However you cut it, he hasn’t delivered a return on the money.
He turns 28 in 6-7 months with less than two years left on his deal, so the next one is his last big contract. He’s already on £300k a week, top 20 salaries in the league and more than Declan Rice, and he’s not going to take a cut.
Our budget is limited. Give him a 3-4 year extension at £300k a week, add Vik on £200k a week for the same stretch, and unless we’re happy to build around those two for the foreseeable future, there’s no room for another £200-300k-a-week player on top upfornt.
