Gyökeres scores at a higher rate than Havertz. Havertz is a better all-round player. The idea wasn't to have the mythical complete striker, it was to have a couple of options with complimentary attributes. Both of these players were cheap. And I mean fucking cheap. Less than an Isak for the pair of them.
The idea that it is some kind of competition between them is wrong. Fine for motivation in the dressing room, but stupid for us to believe. Kai, the idiot, got himself injured for the entire season, which led to Viktor getting injured after Arteta overplayed him. They are supposed to rotate as starters, finishers, and for load management through cup games, depending on form, chemistry, and opposition. Instead, we had a sub-optimally prepared Gyökeres, basically alone, adapting to the PL through relative exhaustion and injury while Kai watched from his sickbed. And still, Viktor scored more than Kai ever has, and has equaled the German's highest ever goal involvements.
This isn't a real debate. It's just people's stupid agendas. Both of our best strikers are far from perfect, deeply flawed players with useful attributes. Pining for Kai turned out to be stupid because Kai is exactly who he always was, while slamming Viktor was stupid because he was never signed to be the guy. Neither his price tag nor his record suggest that. He was a value signing to bolster the squad in the absence of an ideal option.
