QuincyAbeyie it’s like saying, oh, do you want a goal disallowed for offside because the players head or foot or shoulder was “just” in an offside position starting off. Basically refs should apply the rules selectively and subjectively based on the perceived magnitude or importance of the game or team(s) or period of play.
Balls and strikes. To use an Americanism. The job of the FA is to write and clarify the rules, and the job of the ref is to understand and enforce them. To determine if the play is within bounds of the rule, not take into account the team , or narrative, or who is retiring, or who is bald, or game/game state or time or what they’re having for lunch or whose wife Ryan giggs is sleeping with at the time, etc. Offside is offside. A kick in the chest is a foul. A head to the butt is a smelly nose, etc.
Okay I’m done. Doesn’t all make sense, But you get it.
