Clrnc This end of season collapse two years in a row is worrying. I wonder if it is fitness related as well. Heard of teams always preparing their players to finish the season strong but with us we've looked physically elite for most of the season and shot for the last stretch.

JazzG The way we capitulated is almost exactly the same as last year. Even the exact match days we lost or dropped points, down to the days we don't score back to back.

It's actually predictable and many have expressed their worries early on in the season about rotating and resting players. Came back to bite us. Hope Arteta really learns from this. We had a good squad this year but really underutilised. Remember the match day when Saka was ill? We still brought him on when we had a good lead, not sure for what but since then he hasn't been himself.

a knock on effect of our collapsing nature is that no team will ever feel like they're out of it if we're leading the pack. you can see how our players knew they were done and gave up once they let city back in it. that won't happen in our favor. if arsenal are leading no one is going to prioritize cup games because that's their best shot a trophy and 2nd is secure. nah they're gonna go for it like we aren't there.

goon I think the boys weren't prepared for the identity crisis that sets in when you're leading the pack for so long, then suddenly it's over and there's nothing to play for. part of being a top team is you don't let that sense of loss overwhelm your professionalism. I think that's what's happened here. once the title challenge was over and there wasn't anything to play for, that extra 15-20% of effort and belief vanished, and we all know what happens in this league if you're not 100% at it in every fixture.

arteta will also need to examine his man
management once we started to struggle. even though city clearly have more quality than us, the wheels have come off way too spectacularly for a team that led the pack for 80% of the season

goon teams often mirror their managers. I think Arteta lost it at some point (a possible unhinged Anfield ritual as per Burnwinter, lol), maybe became outwardly nervous, showed a loss of calmness and belief and the team’s performances followed suit. Wenger was a bit like this too and struggled at times to shake his teams out of bad spells before real damage was done.

These bad moments have occurred a few times now under Arteta. He needs to sort it out and it might be his head that needs sorting out.

You rarely, if ever saw a Man Utd side under Ferguson shit the bed like this.

goon It can happen and has happened to better sides. I am really proud of this team and what we have achieved but the end of season form has been the one real big disappointment. Finishing below City is fine but last few games I expected a lot more fight, you can see their confidence is shot and they're just going through the motions.

Against Newcastle they showed real fight and character but since those draws against Liverpool and West Ham our level has fallen off a cliff.

You'll have to forgive my lack of knowledge of who little John from Robin Hood is. Still don't know, and don't think I'm bothered to look it up. Feel free to explain more if you wish though.

the capitulation actually reminds me of when spurs memed themselves from being title challengers against Leicester, to finishing 4th behind us. similar context - fresh faced manager, young team with lots of potential, completely coming a cropper. fortunately we put in such a healthy buffer that we avoided such a chastening outcome

Gazza M It's actually quite embarrassing to be honest. To finish around 10 points behind City after being top of the table doe 93%, I don't know what to say. There was no title race, just us putting the pressure like you said in the Spuds Leicester title race

Absolutely pathetic and disgusting performance again, and sadly exactly what I expected. Just looked like we didn't want to be there and didn't even give a fuck.

Forest needn't have even played with a goalkeeper today. The lack of fight, desire and motivation in the the last couple of games, with things at least mathematically still on the line even if not realistically, has to be big black mark against the manager.

One more game to go at home. Is there any chance we turn up to play for some sort of pride in front of our fans. Or do we just limp to another 3-0 loss with barely putting up a whimper? Just so gutting that as fun and enjoyable much of the season was we've still found a way to end it as a meme and joke for everyone else again.
