Clrnc A bit of both. We're not exactly blessed with a wealth of choices of ball-playing keepers and right-sided defenders who were quick, strong, totally comfortable on the ball, tactically astute, equally comfortable at CB, RB or even stepping into midfield, and also a big fucking unit.

Central defence is probably a bit better than it should be … at least until it's explosively bad and Kos is breaking someone's leg while Gallas cries in the corner.

This team would be so fucking wild to watch anyway. Just trying to wrap my head around moments like Eboue and Gervinho mobbing both the opposition left back and themselves at the same time.

Burnwinter Central defence is probably a bit better than it should be

Swap in someone like Cygan or Stepanovs to cure that.

Anelka probably deserves a mention even if he was very good.

Can’t understand a Best XI without Henry, Fabregas, Campbell, and Vieira.

The rest I could tolerate an argument over, though certainly there are others that seem like locks to me.

The variation at right back surprises me a little.

Lauren was immense obviously, but Sagna was brilliant for us for years, and to me also superior to Dixon, although my memory of the latter may be pretty rusty and dusty. But it's Bacary all day for me.

Burnwinter I put Lee in because he straddled 4 title winning sides across 13 years (even if he'd lost his place as a regular starter by 2002, he was still very much part of it), two of our greatest ever managers and he was an excellent full back, who could do everything. 20+ years after he last played a game for us, as you allude to, I think he's been -understandably - forgotten about a little.

I bow to no man in my love for Bacary, a great defender and a welcome tonic after the Eboue years, but as Clarence says, he lacked a bit going forward.. Except on that lovely February day in 2012 when Spurs came a calling.

I considered Sagna but he was too one dimensional for me. Defensively he was the best by far but going forward and versatility Lauren wins all day long
