Burnwinter Liverpool have scored 23–26 fewer points this season than last season, a huge collapse.
If they'd dropped back only 16–19 points instead, then they'd be in fourth and Newcastle wouldn't unless they performed better.

If ever an argument could be made that a team slipping back in performances has helped another to progress, you've got it there. Liverpool's recent form would have had them over Newcastle's horizon and up with us all season.

I think the mood is a little too awestruck about what Newcastle have achieved. Their season overall, despite the strength of their style, is comparable to our last season, with less outlay but with older, more established players. They've built very well but it gets harder—they go into the Champions League and like us, they've been challenged by rotation and whenever they've missed key players.

Why wouldn't Liverpool overtake United then? It will be United that will be pushed out innit? Newcastle played like a draw will secure UCL and that's what they achieved, if they needed they probably would have gone all out to win against Leicester.

Don't really think their season this year is comparable to our last. Their squad is horribly average, but they have punched above their weight the entire season bar Feb when they suffered injuries and suspensions. Our squad previously was good enough for top 4 but we bottled it despite having a healthy lead over Spuds. Wouldn't call the likes of Wilson, Schar, Pope, Murphy established whatsoever.

Yeah I think that's likely. I'm really, really looking forward to it. It's gonna be so funny if ten Hag fails and they return to chaos. I'm a bit disappointed it hasn't already happened. It's the second best feeling in football.

I think Chelsea will also march on quickly with Pochettino in charge.

In this environment we're not gonna be able to afford any mini nightmares like our first three results last season.

Burnwinter Eddie Howe's Newcastle™ are probably gonna finish 4 points ahead of where we did last season when we missed out on top four. It's a miracle! Nah.

Arteta took 2 and a half seasons to get that 4 points less and we'd finished 5th the season before he took over. Howe took over Newcastle while they were in the relegation spots. He's done an incredible job. You completely underrated him and them last summer and you are doing it again.

Burnwinter And if Liverpool and Spurs had performed last season as they did this time round, we'd already have had a season in the Champions League.

There are 20 teams in the league. Us and United under performed last season, not as much this season. These things happen but generally if you get 70-73 points you're likely to get a CL spot. All the fucking "what ifs" in the world don't change reality.

I'd say we're having a =difference of opinion over about a season long 5 point swing. From memory I felt pretty confident Pool or Spurs would squeeze Newcastle out of the top four but the opposite has happened.

So now I'm "underrating" Newcastle because I don't think on that basis that Howe's the new Cruyff nor that splashing €70m on Isak is profoundly shrewd business. Sounds like it might be time to have another round of predictions …

What's happening next season? Are they marching on ahead of us by your lights? What will Howe's next glorious achievement be?

Howe has done a great job at Newcastle so far.. not so sure his style of play will work as a dominant top team, lets see how that team evolves over next couple of years.

Interesting that in the last 3 years, Newcastles net spend is pretty much the same as ours. At a time when we have supposedly gone all out in the transfer market.

I'd like to agree with it, but it's just typical Arsenal Twitter stuff, really. They play garbage football against the best teams in the league and good football against the rest.

QuincyAbeyie we play aspirational football, because we are an aspirational club and always have been. It's depressing that one of the other truly romantic clubs of the English game has been corrupted, but whatever place they sit in at the table, it means nothing. Like Man City, they should only be judged on how they achieve, because what they achieve is irrelevant.

Next year the prem will be the easiest it has been for some years:

Bournemouth
Fulham
Forest
Burnley
Sheffield Utd
Luton Town
Crystal Palace

Newcastle will have to contend with playing twice a week for once.

Brighton, Villa and potentially West Ham will struggle with the Thur- Sun switch.

We just have to worry about Chelsea and Spurs only playing once a week due to no Europe.

Bottom line is that the prem will be easier than this current season.

Will City get complacent after winning potential treble?

We make the right fucking signings and Arteta learns from his mistakes and we go again.
