Clrnc this is an incredibly sad way to interact with football. I enjoyed all the big moments this season and will treasure them.

Clrnc I know what you mean tbf. That Nelson moment was incredible and like Arshavin against Barcelona I’ll remember it forever regardless of how things ended. But I said at the time I was desperate to win the league just so that it could be a memory associated with winning the league.

This season in general has been my favourite of any supporting the club in terms of connection though. I never quite connected with the invincibles in the same way, expectations were too high.

I think it will be the regret that I remember like the Leicester season. When you have a team like city you are probably not going to win most seasons but you have to be ready for the slip of it comes and win that one. I think this season was that opportunity because we could have lost to city twice and still been above them and have a very good chance. You probably don't get many of those over the years. You don't get to pick your opportunities they come when they do. We may be in a better place in 2 seasons as a team and get nowhere near.

Don’t know about Leap but Leao was one of the main reasons why they won the league last year and I guess you didn’t watch the Napoli Milan games recently. Leao is as WC as they get.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 you obviously know that it was an autocorrect after I spelled his name correctly but whatever. Leao goes missing quite often. Anyone who watches Serie A regularly knows that, not just watching random matches here and there and the odd highlight reel. They won the league last season but even then dude didn't putperform Saka's current output with 5 games left despite being older. But yeah whatever, let's overhype other players while calling our players overrated.

in the moment they provide the greatest feeling, but if things don't turn out right they just trigger sadness. i don't even like seeing welbeck's winner against leceister anymore. when it happened i watched it on a loop for like a week. now i just remember "there goes your fairy tale" and just shake my head at what could have been.

Only one team of 20 wins the league. And these days we have a team with almost unlimited wealth turning our league into Ligie1 or Bundesliga. I’m realistic.

Claudius they are raising the standard. That's all it is. We have to catch up. It's not like they have been invincible. We are the ones that crashed. Everton, Southampton, Liverpool, west ham, etc. All winnable games. We shit the bed. You can point your fingers at City all you want - we are the ones who failed when it mattered most. It was fun while it lasted. Lets pick ourselves up now, finish strong and retool for another season.

After these last few matches I'll probably have this behind 07/08 in terms of favorite seasons. It did help that we looked great in the CL that season as well, being robbed by the ref against Liverpool while this season we were a joke against Sporting.

Still time to change that I guess, mathematically speaking.

Qwiss I have residual ill feelings about cescs character off the pitch, I think he's a snaky operator. however, I don't feel he ever did a crunch-time disappearing act for 2 months during his time at arsenal. it was always external factors like injuries that hampered his ability to deliver for us. and this was when we were still. juggling CL football demands for me, saka still quite a ways to go before I can say he is on cescs level in terms of that kind of impact

I would echo the overall sentiment that we don't have a genuine world class player. we had this discussion when we were comparing this side to the invincible. the synergy and cohesion has been the star of the show, but it goes to show you still want 3-4 cheat code players like cesc, haaland, salah, henry etc. to dig you out of the shit when the time comes

Anyway many were jumping the gun saying this team is better than invincible, Zinchenko is our best LB since Cole etc. Don't want to hear those comparison anymore. Pretty off the mark. This team is good, probably 0708 level that's it

Qwiss yeah, that's come across harsher than i intended tbf. but the kid has been noticeably quieter during these pivotal fixtures, and sorry to say, but he is about to be our top earner and franchise player, so the expectations will rise with that. I genuinely don't recall cesc doing that, he was a player for the big occassion whenever he was healthy. only times when his form stuttered was rooted in some kind of injury.

Wenger had 83 points in 08 and 79 points in 2014. Other than that, we have already passed any of our point totals since Mourinho’s first season. And we are doing this with the SECOND YOUNGEST team in the league. Yet instead of celebrating that, we are having a collective meltdown. It’s awful to be honest.

Is it only worthwhile to be a fan if you win the trophy? We can’t celebrate what is aT least one of our best 3 teams in 2 decades? The only acceptable outcome is a trophy?

Last season when we finished 5th, I was comfortable. Because the way you evaluate performance is to look at both outcomes and trajectory. And I’m still comfortable with what I’ve seen this year. This is a wonderful team, full of players I adore, and ready to challenge and keep improving for at least the medium term. Pool stayed at this level for 4 -5 years with a much older squad than ours. Our window has only just opened.

Big Willie People watch highlight reels and thinks Leao is the dogs bollocks. The guy is a moments player and only thrives on counter. There's a reason why he can't get a game for Portugal and Saka is a starter for a position stacked with great players.

People talk about minutes and says Saka should be able to take the amount of game without considering his intensity and how he is burdened with us + England success this entire year. Mentally he is drained AF. Other WC players like Vini can share the burden with others but Saka is literally our star man. Even someone like Kvarat, he is pretty drained as well the last few matches I watched. No longer as sharp and tries too hard. It happens to every player doesn't mean they are not WC.

Claudius The football landscape has changed dramatically since oil money came. no point about points tally to win before 2015 actually. Look at how much Wenger spent to win with Invincibles and how much it takes now. Of course our points tally will beat them. You are only as good as the competition.

If oil money was present those days invincibles would also need to have up their game

For the record I already mentioned in another thread that I'm happy with the team and its progress this season. It's beyond my own wildest hopes for the season that's for sure, and I've greatly enjoyed the ride.

But it has been a really disappointing end to it all. We seem to have run into a wall, mentally or physically or both, and it happened last term as well, albeit with a different goal. This is why I'm hoping quality additions to central midfield, defence and perhaps even attack should give us the squad and firepower we need to compete so we don't manifest these single point of failure collapses like we have in the past two seasons with Partey and Saliba respectively.

The challenge will be sustaining our form through the entire year next term. And also figuring out a different way to play that's equally as effective when we don't have Zinchenko.
