goon I don't know maybe, maybe not. Its been nearly a full season here now and he still looks so passive. Yeah if he gets the ball with a bit of space he can pick a pass but at this level its not enough. I think Arteta has a real question on his hands with him this summer whether or not to stick with him, loan him or sell him. If he stays he needs to go up a few levels next season and right now I'm not seeing that potential there. This time next season if we were competing for the title again and in a Champions League quarter final would you really want him getting a start?

Signings aren't easy, no one gets them 100% correct, the real test is how you react to your mistakes. We seen from Wenger his real weakness was letting go. I hope Arteta and Edu are more ruthless.

Dunno about Vieira (Fabio, not Patrick), but this is spot on. It also shows the players who are still in the mix a certain seriousness. Auba last season probably woke a few up. It's a balancing act, but being loyal to the players that earn it has to be matched on this side too.

Sorry mate, but that's only because of the nonsense first view they showed us. The view from the back is clear as day. I shared a screenshot yesterday but I've now found the video. How is that not a handball? Guy clearly brought his arm and elbow downwards in order to bring the ball into his path.

Still a stupid mistake by Partey trying that there and Gabriel following up with an idiotic lunge. The margins between that being handball and torso are miniscule, evidenced by the fact it's taken multiple angles and super slow motion to identify it. The refs should have picked up, but it could so easily have been genuine.

Tam That's a great story but nowhere in my post do I suggest that the ref had a bigger role that we did. In fact the very first words of my post suggest the opposite. The only point I'm making is that refs are screwing us week in week out.

You make five statements in that post and four of them are about how the ref influenced it. You might not have said it outright but it's clear what your intention was.

I think United got one overturned for them like this. Penalty wasn't given as handball during build up which the ref missed.

James Yes, they could. Even Ødegaard's foul against United was deemed "directely leading to a goal" iirc. Pretty sure their definition is very lenient.

Very frustrating match - only now catching up on the discussion post-game.

I've said before that I don't think we're going to win the league but I still really struggle to accept the suggestion that our players our failures and bottlers. This team are still on track to hit 90 points, which is equal to the Invincibles - the only reason it's not good enough to win the league is because the level of competition at the top of the table has intensified over the last decade and that we're contending with a financially doped City.

Losing to them doesn't make us failures/bottlers because the level we've achieved this season is still so high.

I think it’s a defensive mechanism to use that City are City as way to deflect attention from our shortcomings.

QuincyAbeyie I wasn't sure if handball was a different matter, but I may be thinking to rules from a couple of season ago (Duncan Watmore at Old Trafford). I'm absolutely fine with the decision FWIW, it was incredibly poor from Partey and Gabriel.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 I think you're ignoring the fundamental point I'm making - if we were to finish with 90 points or similar, we'd win the league in most seasons based on what we've seen historically. There's no way I'd consider us failures/bottlers for that reason.

The idea that if you drop points to a 'lesser' team, you're a bottler is farcical in my opinion. For example, City drew away at Forest in a match that on paper should have been no contest. Dropping points there didn't make them bottlers, it just happens when your levels drop for whatever reason (or if you're opposition have an uncharacteristically strong performance).

QuincyAbeyie I'm fine with it because i'm still not 100% it was deliberate handball. One angles suggests it's handball, the other doesn't, before even going into whether it's delberate or not. And VAR should be overturning clear and obvious errors, which I don't think either are.

James He intentionally uses it to control the ball and bring it away from Partey, otherwise Partey incepts it easily. Partey seen the obvious handball and stopped playing, because that handball was fecking obvious right beneath him.

Clrnc If Partey continues, and plays to the whistle, he quite possibly cuts out the square ball to Paqueta. There's zero excuse for him to stop playing.
