Finding it hard to get over this result and I have been avoiding everything football related.

Think this team could do with a ball retention specialist, one that can pick up the ball and you can't take it off him unless you foul him. A player of that type would allow our team to breathe during difficult moments, similar to what Bernardo Silva can do for City or Modric for Madrid. Hleb was underrated by our fans because he didn't score goals, but he was elite at helping us control matches during key moments IMO.

I'd be over the moon if we could get Frenkie de Jong along with a technically sound ball winner in the summer.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 While I agree with you, the crazier suggestion there is that Nelson should somehow be ahead of Trossard in the pecking order.

Edit: Didn't see that Trossard was in midfield.

Martinelli is a productivity monster. There is no way I would want him dropped. I’m fine if 3 in 4 games Trossard can rotate with someone from the front 3 but give Martinelli his credit. Think about the goals scored and chances created last few games and the role he has played.

Another wild option in games where we need to get ahead is to play Trossard at left 8. Trossard has played every attacking role at Brighton plus left back. This is a smart, adaptable player who is amazing on the ball.

Tactics Unfortunately Arteta will never drop Saka if he's fit. He will also try to avoid sending a message like this after Saka missed penalty and desperate to redeem himself.

I will actually look to start Kiwior and see how he does. Holding at City will not end well really

Clrnc I don't have the sort of memory that allows me to say which games, but I think there have been at least 3 games this year where Saka seemed to be having a poor game, and all of a sudden he pulls the winning goal or assist out of his ass. I understand why Arteta doesn't sub him.

The team was definitely nervous yesterday. One thing in particular stood out to me and that was Gabriel not passing the ball back to Ramsdale like he usually would. He instead opted to clear / put it out of play i.e. take the low risk option. This meant we weren't able to get control of the game in the way we usually do and the ball was always coming back at us. I understand nerves and not wanting to make mistakes but we need to find a way to play our normal game in the 7 games that remain.

I fear if we don't win it this season, we might not get a chance to again for a long, long time with petro money fuelling City, Newcastle and possibly United in the near future.

We did miss zinchenko. Tierney was very average and was of no use in build up play. He was heading the ball under no pressure and his passing was woeful.

Cannon Yeah, there's no point him trying to play in Zinchenko's positions. Either he wasn't finding the right positions or Gabriel doesn't trust him there. We looked better when Jorginho started to take up the pivot.

Cannon This kind of argument really doesn't stand for me because I'm there watching Tierney, Gabriel, Partey building up nicely for half an hour running rings around West Ham. If they can do it for the start they can do it for the whole game. It's not ability, it's mental and game management from the whole team

the last few games have brought home how finely tuned and synergy-driven our game is. we can get away with not having key pieces for a couple of games tops, but statistically if we're not able to play our 'death lineup' aka strongest 11 in every game, the seams in the squad - and there are a few - begin to strain.

some veteran players have let us down recently as well - partey, zin, xhaka and odegaard as captain - shoulder much of the burden when the team gets rattled, and they haven't been able to steady things in the same manner as before

Gazza M I would put Saka in there. He’s not our captain but he’s our emblem. And he’s had two stinkers.

I’m just glad that the fans don’t seem to be unforgiving that he missed a penalty that would’ve put us at 3-1 and we were 2-2 a minute later. That’s a clear swing in the match, from a 0.8xG shot.

Claudius Like I said its not Saka fault that he is jaded. Overplayed again at a tender age, he was trying but could barely run. That was very clear in both away matches.

We have seen many evidence of young players dropping a cliff when they are overplayed, combined with his exploits for England at Qatar and recently in the international football. Its understandable. We should have seen this coming. If we wanted to get out of Europa as suggested why play Saka, Saliba etc? Fact is we were trying to win both competitions and balanced it but didn't manage it and that's for Arteta to learn again.

Odegaard sub was fecking weird when he was taking the free kick. He was the only one trying to create something, once he left We were done for
