Another bad xg match for us. West Ham was ₁.8 whereas we were close to 3 but penalty was 0.75. We're allowing teams to create more chances recently. Against Liverpool it was one thing, against West HHam it's concerning.

When you are one of our twin 8s as Xhaka is, you have to do better on putting the opponents under pressure. These numbers today aren’t good enough for someone in that position. Might as well be a DM.

At this stage even Southampton at home is not a given.

This is hugely disappointed. We will be more gutted next season when we are probably battling it out for fourth place.

Also, it’s going to be death with a thousand cuts watching city edge closer to the title every passing week. At least in a cup competition once you are out you are out.

Two players can't be the difference between a title winner and struggling against one of the worst teams in the league even with a 2-0 lead and getting a penalty. West Ham were without one of their CBs too, for what it's worth.

To be fair, it was literally just yesterday that Man City brought on Kalvin Phillips, Cole Palmer and Sergio Gomez in a game that they were cruising in and then proceeded to get played off the park at home against Leicester. Shit happens. The other team has professional footballers too.

They’re not THE difference, but they make the margin for error more comfortable.

We got punished for cruising at 2-0, missing a penalty. Saliba and Zinchenko don’t fix those issues and maybe they don’t impact Partey having his worst game of the season, but they’d have probably mitigated them.

It’s a bit like playing with Eddie up top. You can make it work for a while but eventually it starts to become hard work especially as others drop off.

Teams lose players for periods. Thats part of the season for everyone. You have to still keep it together. We've lost players for periods before and coped, this is different. Its not about a couple of injuries, thats just a convenient excuse. WHU were missing key players too.

Qwiss only players who have consistently come on and kept us ticking are Trossard and Tomi (and even he had a few rough games post injury). Vieria, Tierney, Holding, Nketiah have all played over 1000 minutes (Nketiah at 1800). It’s not like these guys don’t have a portfolio to show off this season

In a better world, our second most used player isn’t Xhaka but that was for Vieira to solve. 🥲

Qwiss Zinchenko was absolutely terrible last week so I can't really bring myself to feel like if he'd been on the pitch we'd have won comfortably. Tierney did well I thought, defended well, put a few good balls into the box but there was no one with him in those instances. You always know we are scared when we stop getting bodies into the box.

I though he did alright but you can clearly see he's not comfortable receiving the ball in midfield under pressure and it limits us a bit. I don't understand why we don't switch it when Zinchenko is out and have Tierney tuck in to the three and White step into midfield. I guess it's because of the amount of donkey work Xhaka does to facilitate Zinchenko, which might be a waste of Odegaard and Saka's talents

Vieira didn't randomly show up at the club one day. Looks like a mistake signing, people forget how expensive he was. Could have brought in someone like Tielemans instead and he'd have been far more useful.

Southampton and Leeds are up there as well, which does seem to suggest that Zinchenko does in fact have something to do with it (regardless of whether you want to "blame" Partey or "blame" Tierney for this state of affairs).

For what it's worth, West Ham have underperformed their underlying numbers more than any team in the league so far. They're actually a reasonably solid mid-table team by performance levels. Prediction markets only had us at 50-60% to win this game in the first place. This wasn't some huge upset. The possibility of a result like this ought to have been reasonably priced into expectations heading into this. Perhaps it wasn't and this is why people are losing their minds over this one.

DiabyKungFu When we when 2 nil up in the first 9 mins, the West Ham fans around me was fearing 6 or 7 goals. They were that bad and we suddenly took the piss for a period, let them off the hook and never recovered. It was ridiculous.
