In fairness to Artera we’ve heard various ex pros saying the run in pressure is intense. I’m not sure there’s a motivational trick to prevent that from having an effect, especially with the youngest side in the league.

I do think though that there’s a bit too much emphasis on staying calm. I saw Arteta, White, Holding all gesturing to slow things down and keep the ball, I’ve seen Xhaka and Ode play safe passes in an effort to keep the ball. It’s counter productive imo, the message should be to play your game and play with intensity. When you tell someone to stay calm you’ll most likely achieve the opposite.

I think its definitely something you can manage and its one of the defining traits of top managers. I think we've seen improvement on that front with Arteta though so hopefully he can right the ship again rather than completely collapse like last season.

If you look at our blips this season, we drop points at home to Newcastle then beat United and Spurs on the bounce. We drop points against Everton, Brentford and then lose to City, we came back from that and won 7 in a row. This seasons not over yet, its just harder than it was 8 days ago. City still need to beat us in the Ethiad to get this race back into their control.

goon absolutely. No reason to drop the tempo. Worried about our lack of ideas when we needed the winner. We should have done more. Keeper had nothing to do, no desperate save to make. We didn't give the impression we were fighting for the title. Proud of this team but always worried these chances don't come around often.

Saliba missing had been a massive blow for us, would feel a lot more confident if he were in defence.

Burnwinter likely. It’s sad we couldn’t get another midfield workshorse. I think Xhaka was definitely one of our better players pre World Cup - consistently influential. But he’s been quiet in 2023

Gunner89 I think you misunderstand - he can't begin to start nursing ESR back now - it's too late - should have got him back and given him 30 mins when we were comfortable against Leeds, Palace, Everton etc. And the Europa league games too. It's pretty standard stuff.

West Ham better turn up and do the same to City in 3 weeks. Title race is not over, and the first 30 minutes in the last two games continue to underscore the team's potential. The right adjustments, which are looking very difficult right now, will put us in a place to get the victory at the Etihad. Just need to snap the skid and put a end-to-end performance together.

Gutting really, that's two seasons back to back where we have fought ourselves into a good position for our season but been unable to get it done right at the business end.

Worrying with that mentality in the team and it coming back to us. Without the context of this season 2nd would have been good but for me I don't necessarily think we automatically can replicate what we've done this season so it's the fact that we got so close to a title and couldn't seize that opportunity. I think it's only going to be harder going forwards.

It would be good to win the title now. City is too rich, you can’t hope to win titles regularly when there is a team that always hits 90 points. Wenger and Ferguson had no idea what 90 points look like. I hope we have a state of the nation today and figure this out.

awooga83 I fully expect us to be solidly in the top 4 and not much beyond that next season.

I think we'll find it really difficult with the CL given that most of the squad and Arteta (as a manager) are virgins in that, and I expect us not to get all the signings we need this summer, as usual.

As long as we continue to get the squad up to par over the next two or three windows, and we continue developing our style of play and being competitive, I'll still see us as being on the right trajectory.

Kel Varnsen I think he will. We’re still a work in progress. Next season we’ll go to the next level with more experience under the players belts and with smart additions.

Several players need to be upgraded. Holding, Martinelli, Xhaka, and ESR/Vieira

Dam gutted. Ultimately think the pressure has got to the team.. Playing under real pressure is something they are going to have to learn, including the manager.

Thought Ode was average myself. Not impactful enough. The Jorginho and Trossard subs where good but we just couldn't turn it on again after the nerves kicked in.

Claudius Xhaka for starters. From last weeks stupidity to this week clapping sarcastically at the officials along with his underperformance in both games he's a real hindrance when the pressure is on. If Partey and Ode are on top form he looks good but when they are not he can't compensate. He's the biggest most glaring weakness in the team.

Claudius Odegaard started well but was caught between trying to contribute in attack vs dropping deep to control tempo. As a result he did neither and we lost the midfield.

Once Jorginho came on, Odegaard focused more on the final third and we controlled the game more

naz the thing is, this is so predictable. Those who kept saying who cares is Saka is tired they need no rest etc is proven wrong again. These are young players they is way overplayed.

Nelson Trossard all looked fresh and good when they came on. But changes came too late again. These are all game management that we are lacking and throwing it away ourselves

Clrnc Saka has played 3100 minutes this season. Gabriel and City’s top players have all played more, and other young stars like Bellingham are on the same number of minutes as him. We have tons of data on all these players that would force managers to pull them if they were physically short.

Qwiss from a capability standpoint, he’s the guy I would look to replace. But it’s not a long list I would go after. Bellingham, Rice etc.

I think we should not underestimate the effect of those Tomi and Saliba injuries coming together. Tomi was always really good as a sub for White or alternate for Zin. And we know from Serie A and Japan he can play CB well. So would have been nice to at least have him in Saliba’s absence. Losing Zin on top of that is tough.

I look at last week’s game for example. We started giving up our left flank, and that’s where the winner was made. First round game, Tomi shut down that flank.

The worse aspect was getting into a really good position and then seemingly amongst the whole team starting to act like the game was dead so we could take our foot off and getting complacent. I really don't get that and it's pretty unprofessional especially given we had basically had the same experience last week.

We should have been maintaining the level and looking for the 3rd which probably would have helped end the game.

If there's one thing the team should be experts in now is that 2-0 is not enough to start fucking around. No more of that this season hopefully.
