Zinchenko is a far superior player to Tierney, and Zinchenko fits perfectly in the Arteta system. Tierney, on the other hand, is a very limited wide player. I don't see any sort of future for Tierney here.

The video is mostly banter but I do actually think the biggest takeaway today was that we really missed Zinchenko. They disrupted our buildup play and prevented us from moving the ball into dangerous areas all game. Not too dissimilar to the Southampton and Leeds games.

Defensively solid. Looked clueless whenever he slotted into central midfield. It's clear he has no future here. Arteta wants his LB to (mostly) play CM when we have the ball. Tierney can't do that, so he'll be gone this summer.

We desperately missed Zinny. Not just his play but his leadership skills.

I mean, we got to 2-0 up and in a pretty comfortable position with Tierney. I don't think that was the issue, it was the way the team adopted a job done mentality and let their level drop off and allowed a complement mentality to take hold and we did similar with zinchenko against Liverpool so I don't know he's the solution to what we saw again today. That was a team issue.

I actually don't think we played well at any point during this game. The fact that we happened to score with basically our first two attacks skewed perception here. I remember when the commentator noted that both teams had taken 4 shots and said something to the effect of "But that isn't a fair reflection of how the game has gone" and I remember thinking at the time "Is it unfair? Seems reasonable fair to me. We've done absolutely fuck-all in terms of getting the ball in even quasi-dangerous positions outside of the goals." This is also why I don't think we "bottled" this in any way. I didn't think we had the game settled at any point.

Kel Varnsen Which is why it's a mistake. He nullified all his strengths. When you play Tierney, play him as a traditional fullback, which is what the game was calling for.

Not sure why Tierney would be being scapegoated. Not only did Tierney play a decent game according to the player he is, he did a number of things Zinchenko would never do, including precisely blocking a sharp, goal-bound strike. If anything he really hammered home that he should've been on the pitch when Salah did Zinny and we conceded the second goal at Anfield.

I'm with you here. Xhaka was a passenger yesterday. I keep hearing about all the work he's been doing to help out Zinchenko but it look a lot more like Zinchenko and Partey make up for Xhakas weakness to me. Without the former and the latter having an off day Xhaka is anonymous. Players have off days, players miss games, you need the others in the team to step up and cover for that. We see that all the time with the attackers. Saka and Ode had a slow start to the season but Jesus and Martinelli stepped up for instance. Quite often Gabriel and Saliba will pick up the slack if one has an off day, etc When does Xhaka carry anyone? We need someone in there who can carry the team when needed. Partey and Odegaard both regularly have days when they are the stand out player in the team, Xhaka doesn't. He has stand out games when most of the team us buzzing. Thats the difference.

Xhaka has been a passenger in the last couple of games sadly, in both directions. So has Odegaard. Unfortunate time for them to both go into their shell.

goon they have been quiet. Along with Saka. A bit unfortunate for all three to have reserved performances. Odegaard did contribute at least this past weekend, and Xhaka helped set up the Jesus goal last weekend. And Saka is often involved in the goals as well. But would be good to see them run things the way Jesus is.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 Ironic you'll extend this courtesy of context to Xhaka, but Arteta, the man most responsible other than Xhaka himself for saving the Albanian's career from the Süper Lig bargain bin, is now our main problem.
