Not enough rotation and too much rotation, usual criticisms here after a loss. Jorginho still makes zero sense as a signing, a good pass here and there aside. Vieira not good enough.

But Ramsdale lost us the game and the tie in the end. Didn't like dropping Turner from the start, bad move and it didn't pan out. No problems with the rest of the lineup. The constant fear of players getting injured always feels a but hysterical to me. If they can't stay fit they need to either be replaced or backed up with another signing.

Adan is fucking annoying, though.

We're not currently in a position where we can replace or back players up with signing before the title is decided though, so if those are the reasons then it's not necessarily hysteria at this point on time.

So did all the other big clubs in the group stages because the lesser clubs were too weak.

When it comes to KO stages Arsenal and Arteta always fielded strong team. We are 100% trying to win it.

Last 2 times we got knocked out at home we fielded our best available team too. If we are not trying to win it together with the league, you would have seen a weak team fielded instead of having even the first choice goalie and CB pair coming back.

I don't think that. But I also don't think there is a linear relationship between playing games and getting injured. We've had long term injuries happen in training. Rotation is really overrated as some kind of skill, it's just a thing you have to do sometimes.

I thought Nelson was dreadful on the ball in this game. Showed his nervousness and hopeless dribbling from past seasons.

Coombs I'm not so worried about the injury side - I think they do a good job identifying who needs rest and who doesn't based on physiological measures. But I do think we need to rotate more in small ways in order to keep a higher percentage of the squad ready to contribute when necessary.

RowJimmy but Arteta does exactly that, doesn't he? The argument that we should still win if we rotate only 2 players doesn't hold up if it's also an argument that we should rotate more than that. Also, at what point exactly is it the players' responsibility to be ready when called? They both want their chance to make an impact but also the excuse that they need more chances than the ones they get. The logic doesn't work. They need to make the best of the chances they get, or better players are going to play ahead of them.

The only relevant bit is the former.

City have dropped points to Everton, Forest etc. this season. We've dropped points to Southampton and Everton. These are teams in the bottom six. We nearly fumbled it against Bournemouth. These are all tough games where you need to be on it to win. Anything that not only further levels the playing field in terms of pure quality, but also disrupts the system and tactical approach that has led to you topping the league is going to make a bad result all the more likely.

And make no mistake, our system and tactics are highly strung. It's one thing loosing 3 players if you're Everton and are planning to put 10 min behind the ball and hit it long, and something else entirely if you're playing like us and you lose players crucial to enabling you to play a high line and press, pass out the back etc.

Sporting didn't put 10 man behind the ball. They pressed us aggressively, played on the front foot and created many chances over 2 legs. They played well.
