Qwiss Well Smith-Rowe has done more good work in the Premier league than Havertz or Vieira ever have.

Forget track records anyway, the low bar in that position at the moment is looking vaguely lively and switched on and successfully exchanging a few passes with intent. Smith Rowe was the only player of the three to get over that bar and he did it in under five minutes.

Burnwinter want an insane stat? Smith Rowe made 6 passes in his 4 minutes on, same number as Nelson and worst of all same number as Eddie.

Don Pacifico yeah but we all know that's not true. ESR played 90 minutes for u21s no problems. He doesn't even get meaningful minutes here, even as a sub. Giving him last 3 minutes like a team trying to get a waste time sub in is not a good look.

Clrnc yeah agree, I don't think it's tactical he's not in Arteta's plans based on how he's gone about using him.

Agree with the above, Arteta still has this strange binary your in his group or you basically aren't playing and form does not seem to be a question for that. That isn't a great trait for me and regularly inhibits us and yet he's backed Willian and Havertz.

As I said last season, the 50 point total was an anomaly and the question for me was what was our actual level and does our points tally fall back to prior to last season and suck us into the 2-4 place battle. If that does happen then I think they're would be decent questions about where we are going with Arteta so he had a big season and needs to learn to manage his squad better.

Qwiss Honestly I wouldn't have guessed that, but it definitely felt like it as soon as he was on.

If Arteta doesn't get off his high horse on the question eventually and we see more laughable situations like the one just gone, it'll be hard not to lose a bit of respect for him.

I'm not saying Smith Rowe is the answer to our problems, but the prejudice is dumb when the players being jammed in ahead of him are performing at an average level. I'd include Vieira in that, never mind Havertz or Eddie being sent out there.

We could play this:

 White   Saliba   Gabriel    Kiwior
        Jorginho Zinchenko
   Odegaard       
                       Smith Rowe
     Saka    Jesus

and look okay while Rice is out, I reckon. We'd lose quite a bit in attack, but still have interesting options, and relying on Jorginho as a solo pivot in this league will see us give up chances to every team in the league.

I think the most worrying thing for me is how we don't create chances from open play consistently or much at all through all our games this season. Even today the 2 goals we scored were an OG and a penalty. We barely tested Vicario after the first half an hour. It was the same against United as well.

Mirth it is and it's shocking from Arteta too. This season Eddie has been very involved so starting him isn't a big deal but leaving him on when he was so ineffectual was ridiculous. He could have brought Nelson on at half time for him and if he felt Jesus wasn't up to 90 mins put Havertz up top when came off, put ESR in the middle.

This is a massive problem in Arteta's squad management and one he's always had. If your not within the inner circle he essentially deletes you from his options. Even if maybe he doesn't back you but pragmatically you need to switch things up cause it's not working he rather just keep "his players" on. It's a really infuriating trait and unless he can let that go I think it's a major flaw.

naz I was going to start a thread examining if our star players performances have dropped off, and those stats definitely support the idea. we're globally down across all the metrics

if the numbers still look like that after 10 league games, questions need to be asked about what arteta is doing.

It looks pretty global so I'd speculate it's to do with conditioning. It'd be good to have someone like @speedy around to shed some light on how that all works ...

Yeah those statistics are very bad and especially if we are entertaining being the next team in line behind city. I still wonder about how we overachieved last year and where are true level might be. We will have a better sense after 10-12 matches I feel but this start has been a little worrying.

Clrnc City are excelling in both. Being a defensively good team that's average in attack won't get us anywhere. We've also had an easy opening to the season, so our attacking stats should be better.
