Our football has tanked since we made this change and add Timber and Hincapie either side who can't create or progress the ball vertically either and it's completely hamstrung the attack - relative to how we used to play in the past.

Odegaard needs to get fit and get rice back to a proper 8 because Arteta can't trust Eze not to fuck up. The double dm with our quality at the back is overkill.

Timber needs a reset (& a rest). Get white back in.

Quincy, what struck me about that comment was it had two ideas
1) That he is hopeful we will have a trophy or 2 (so he thinks we are in a position to win trophies)...
2) ... but we are going to be served shit

We just saw our rivals get thumped by 3 goals each in Europe, while we got out of a limp away performance with a draw. So despite the visuals, we are still competing on 4 fronts on 12 March. I have gone back through our seasons post 2000, and this has actually never happened - not under Wenger or Emery have we been in so many competitions this late into the season. This also at a time when the Champions League has a more challenging schedule that has both more matches and a greater variety of opponents.

So let's please appreciate that this team is breaking its back to try do something special. Maybe we get zero trophies, maybe we get 4 but for us to just complain about shit in this context does not feel respectful of the effort the playing and coaching staff are making here. Not saying you don't have the right to moan, just trying to offer some perspective.

We all support the club in different ways, and I suspect have many different reasons and desires in what we want to get out of the game. Some will want a trophy at the end of the season, some might want a welcome escape from life for 90 minutes every weekend, some might want entertainment to brighten up their day.

It's patronising nonsense to tell someone they should turn away from the club they love because they don't like what they see. Inherent in that is a sense primacy; your perspective is better than someone else because it does not give you negative feelings towards the club or team. Patronising nonsense.

Strong words can be exchanged in a few directions without any well-grounded judgements. Sure it's condescending and exclusionary to write "If you don't like the football, leave" but it's also graceless and annoying to whine "We better get a few trophies out of this rubbish" and so on.

Winning is all there is for us. Some English clubs just got slaughtered in Europe for more open tactics and shaky defending. Yes what we're putting out isn't gorgeous. But no one's trading it for anything prettier if the prettier option loses 5–2 or 3–0.

He's a defender mate. We rely on our defenders to create chances and score goals. Who sets teams up like this?

Gurgen yeah its a big issue in our tactical approach. If he was 2020 Cancelo getting in those positions we'd scoring tons but then Arteta wouldn't have Cancelo because he isn't as good in defence. We are asking Timber to be exceptional on both ends and I'm not sure there is a right back in the game now who could do it.

Yes, I think it's possible to look like shit even if you're winning trophies, just like I think it's possible to look good even if you don't. You've enjoyed the last couple of seasons despite no trophies, haven't you? The opposite can also be true.

I'm not sure why this matters. Would it be different if Chelsea, City and Tottenham won? In that case we'd still see Atletico, Real Madrid and PSG get thumped in Europe. They're all our rivals in the CL if we want to win - the English teams no more than the others.

I guess you could find it direspectful, but I really don't. I'm not talking to the players, I'm not booing them in the stadium, I'm not tagging them on Twitter. I'm just on a forum complaining about it being a chore to watch compared to previous seasons, and it feels especially relevant with all the talk of how the problem is just how defensive all the other Premier League teams are.

One's a rant into the ether based on legitimate feelings about the team and our performance levels and style. I may not necessarily agree but we're entitled to our opinion. The other is targeted in the direction of a forum member.

Maybe. A rule about targeting wouldn't be enforceable here. Our community's too small and language too slippery to make the distinction between ad rem and ad hominem a categorical imperative. Too many views here have only one advocate.

Not to put too many words in other people's mouths, but I think it was more, "if you don't like it why watch?" than "if you don't like it fuck off" - not the same.
