Don Pacifico yeah Trossard is playing it early and especially in the first few minutes yesterday that was quite dangerous I just prefer an attacking 4 where there are 2 more creative players and 2 who are more forwards.

Don Pacifico Yeah I was happy with him taking the shots early too. The goalie spilt both of them, 1 of which nearly led to Martinelli scoring. The only 1 he rushed for me was the left footed blast over the bar as Saka would have had a tap in if he managed to stay calmer and square it.

Qwiss Definitely. You could see as soon as Eze started on the left he was out of the game. Look at Madueke on the left vs the right too, is it that he's just better on the right or is it that we played through him more on the right? I think that's still an open question.

I think Madueke is better on the right if we are looking for him to beat his man and then get the cross/pull-back in.. He has no left peg. It we are looking for him to try to take on the defender, cut inside and take a shot (a la Martinelli on the left, or Saka on the left), the starting on the left would be best for him.

Once he's fit, i would like to see at least one game where we start Saka and Madueke (on either side, i dont care which) and we can see if they absolutely terrorize FB's.

Madueke absolutely has a left peg. He is left footed.

Yeah, i mixed up the legs.... But i know he's only got one good foot. The other is used for floaters.. Either way, i want to see him and Saka on opposing sides to scare the shit out of defenders.

We need to go on and win something but the fundamentals are spot on. This extra depth should hopefully get us over the line, even with key players out we are looking strong and resolute but we need to get them back and keep them fit.

tazmania it is very impressive. tety-taka is starting to coalesce nicely. ill start to fully unclench when we start consistently scoring the game breaking goal from open play. as impressive as our set pieces are, we are still a bit too reliant on them to get the opening goal.

Our set pieces are so good there are fans in the stadium who get an advance feed and celebrate even before we score a set piece goal.

I see your point, but with the amount of teams that just sit back with either a deep mid or low block against us, set pieces are sometimes the key to opening up a game. Its almost as if teams invite us to score against them via set pieces (which we happily oblige).

We attacked well and hit the bar and scored a goal from open play that was ruled offside before breaking the deadlock from a free-kick. We could become more clinical with our open-play chances, but until that happens I'm taking any way we can score. And looks like the team embraces this attitude as well.

We're not just relying on set-pieces but instead are taking them seriously(as Gyökeres said post-match) as one good opportunity for scoring.

Gazza M As @USArsenal says teams set up nasty low and mid blocks against us and even the best attacking sides would struggle to get through so it is vital we have another way to get through. I think once we get all our players back we should be able to play with more attacking variation this season but for now it is important by hook or crook we get that opening goal and then finish the job. Whether that is scoring more or seeing the game out.

Arsenal fans digging up receipts on Twitter. I remember when they talked about set piece coaches and how Liverpool had signed a throw in coach. Don't remember anyone criticising or calling Liverpool or Man City set piece FC.

The main reason we are so good at set pieces is our delivery from Rice and Saka is superb and then Gabriel is an absolute monster. It would be madness not to take advantage of this.

The risk with our struggles from open play is that 1 goal games can easily become a draw and dropped points and you want to protect yourself from that,either a wonder strike like Liverpool or a mistake and ref decision. If we concede our set up has meant it's been very difficult to turn it around like the PSG match. The question will just be does it happen enough times that it sinks you in this big trophies.

For those wondering what the hell these diagrams are, basically shows that teams so far this season play with the deepest defensive line when they play against us. A lot of talk about our current open play goals but things like adds important context as to why we are finding it harder to play free flowing and break down teams.

JazzG this doesn't just happen though, teams do come at us as well it's just we are so slow and fixed in our attacking approach is pretty easy for a well drilled defence to get into shape because of how wet go about attacking.

JazzG Interesting. Backs up what I've been seeing and that teams set up to play 0-0 against us.

I think a big reason teams sit really deep against us (moreso than against City/Pool etc.) is because they still believe they can shut us out. It hasn't worked for them so far this season, but it did last season, so they’re sticking with it. If we keep beating low blocks with set-piece goals and tight 1–0/2–0 wins, they’ll eventually have to change their approach. But for the moment and based on the evidence from last season, sitting deep against us = a point (which for most teams in the league is a win).

From here, one of two things can happen:

Our set-piece output tails off and their approach is justified, or
We keep winning, and teams realise they have to change their approach

Let’s hope it’s the 2nd scenario that plays out as the season goes on but I reserve a slight concern, that we'll see the 1st scenario play out instead.
