That’s the wrong thing to do. Every single game, Nketiah doesn’t hold up the ball and does not pass to any of our attacking midfielders. It’s like playing a forward down. The data is plainly evident. We need to figure out how to solve that. This is not a Jorginho problem.

Xhaka playing deeper as part of a two us a much bigger problem (even if it's a direct result of Jorginho being in Partey).

Xhaka is offering next to nothing. He's slow and ponderous defensively, and can't pass and move through pressure in early build-up.

banduan the problems are quite far ranging at the moment. there's a rolling of list of things we did well in the first half of the season, that have eroded quite noticeably

pressing
chance creation
defenders losing 1 on 1 battles
build up play from the back

I don't think it could be all stemming from a loss against everton rattling our confidence this much

This is what I said two weeks ago in the midst of a debate about Nketiah. Based on how the offense has had balance and flow since we dropped him, I think I called this right. Nketiah deapite his individual goal scoring threat was degrading our overall ability to create continuous and varied threat. Now we have an offense where all of our front 4 are continually active and getting chances, versus the predictable funnelling it to Saka so he can get kicked into the air.

When the Arsenal offense functions, our forwards each get about 40 touches. They all create for each other and take shots. When it came to a halt with Eddie, Martinelli would constantly get isolated, there were limited positional rotations and the ball would move slowly, making us easy to keep in front of the defense.

Ricky1985 It's a direct result because Jorginho can't cover spaces. Xhaka is still playing a LCM, he just has to drop back to cover more often than not because the former is inept and slow defensively.

It's affecting the entire team

Jorginho is an ok player if you remove all context from things, stick beside a Kovacic type and he can look good. Stick him in with midfield and a completely out of form Odegaard and he's a problem. It was crazy signing such a slow player to play with Xhaka. Fair enough Caicedo wasn't a feasible option in the end but have a better contingency plan.

Zinchenko has been a disaster in this poor run. As has Xhaka. Arteta has too much faith in them, he needs to bench at least one.

Saka is a one man team today. The only player out there who's close to being up to scratch. Eddie hasn't had a sniff and Trossards not making any sort of impact.

Saliba and White have been poor too. Gabriel has been ok.

Arteta needs to do something. Its been 4 games of this malaise. You can't just carry on and hope it fixes itself. Is 45 minutes to save our season overly dramatic?

Gazza M I agree I think some of it is we had an exceptional run which covered over lots of our limitations but we see a bit more of this now. The defence isn't quite as good as it appeared in that great run where are attacking game could bail us out.
