Qwiss It'd be mad to give up while we're level on points with a game in hand.

This is it for me. We have it all to play for. Players could be excused for feeling sorry for letting a lead slip but Arteta needs to remind them how well they've done to put us in this position in the first place, and that despite the diaappoinent of the last week, any team in the league would absolutely love to swap positions with us right here and now. And that includes Man City.

I'll take this all day, I think we need teams to do us a bit of a favour to come through. This is very reminiscent of the Leicester season when the other teams (read city) just kept dropping the ball. I'll take that into the end of the season though.

The narrative that this is some kind of Leicester season where everyone is rubbish is patently false and is simply there to discredit what we're doing.

goon the Leicester comparison for me is that the freaky results coming out of nothing. Like when we beat Leicester then lost at home to Swansea (as I still have burnt into me memory). I don't think it looked likely to happen but those results did happen that season when ordinarily that might have been the end of them. It's this bits of fortune that go your way that don't always happen like when Liverpool and city were going for each other they basically both made almost no mistakes.

awooga83 you do realize this is the first kind of a rut run this season. We are not out of the woods yet. Still need to find goals from the top. But no way this is like Licester. We were dominating many of the games we played.

I meant from the nature of some of the dropped points, we lose too Everton city lose, they finally manage to get to the top then they get a draw with forest of all teams despite having so many chances. In that season Leicester needed some things to role their way the other *big" sides just went AWOL. Arsenal bear them and I thought they'll just fall away but we kept dropping points until only they were there.

Anyway with us I said I'd be interested to see how we navigate the rest of these season if we win most of the games then fair enough it will have been a different outcome for sure.

Sometimes it’s helpful to step away and look at the bigger picture. We too often just get caught up in the minutiae of games and individual moments of games.

When we broke for World Cup, we were 1 point behind City with a game in hand. 3 months later, we are 3 points ahead with a game in hand. So did we get prematurely excited? Really recommend that you look at PPG and longer trends. There are week to week effects like schedule strength and upsets that will cause you indigestion.

I appreciate the people—think it's mainly you and Quince, Claude—who've been reminding us week to week that we're not outperforming our apparent underlying quality.

One of the thing's that's encouraging is the rate at which this playing group has developed mentally in the last two seasons. Whatever, holistically, we're doing internally in that regard—from recruiting the right personalities to setting the right standards—we seem to be among the best clubs at it in the league.

I think there is another level left to unlock there: that crazy stat about our comeback against Villa being the first time we've reversed a halftime away deficit in the league since 2009 indicates as much, if it's true. If we do get stronger still in that sense, then we've got a great chance at the title.

Eh, not true. Its funny but on top of Claude and Quince, there are myself, Clrnc and a couple others who have been trying to allay some of the fears of impending doom some people have been feeling recently to the point where people are thinking we'll be in a battle with United for 2nd lol.

We've consistently been the best side this season. I rewatched the City game yesterday and we honestly should have won that game. We pretty much gifted them all their goals through mistakes at the back but even then we had way more than enough chances to win. Strangely enough I was even more confident we could do it after the game with City because of the way we played them (errors aside). Even the second half where we were "outplayed" looked very even and balanced to me on rewatching it.

There’s definitely more to unlock. Still feels like we play in fits and starts. It seems like we always have one or two players who aren’t performing to their best each match as well.

Can’t wait to see Jesus return as I think he helps set the defensive tempo from the front, he knits the attack together and he will be a better option that Nketiah when coming up against low blocks.

The other area for improvement is Xhaka’s role. Now he’s been performing excellently there but we need an alternative option there. More fluidity and someone who can evade players with ease.

Would love us to get Mac Allister in the summer.

True, true. I mean I'm one of that group, but in Claude's case he's been doing a good job of dispelling any perception we're not playing well based on the numbers.

I guess they're two different things. It's both true that we earned our position without relying on luck and that we were pretty awful in the three games after the United one. I for one am not ruling out the possibility that we'll be fighting for second place.
