What we more need is a very strong core XI+, and then players who are desperate to break into it, potentially good enough to do so, and willing to take on responsibility as starters or subs every chance they get.
This is where players like Nketiah and Tierney are a bit troublesome, no one can fault their endeavour or say anything too harsh about their level, but when you're out of Arteta's thinking on both system and quality grounds, you're not going to get many chances.
It's best for all parties if we move on most of the players who slide into that quadrant, and replace them with alternatives who at least have tons of upside or some kind of X factor.
