Quick thoughts on the winda. Overall, I really, really like our team. I think we’ve built a great MVP if you will, which has done well in its first title race. Now we need to go all in. ideally for me, priority ins/outs are focused on the first 11 and we answer 3 questions with each player - a) is he top 2 quality, b) is he healthy/available, and c) does he fit the system?

My incomings

Rice: one of the top players in pass completion, retention and recovery. Will elevate the Xhaka role and can also fit in for Partey
Caicedo: incredible tackler, efficient passer - good to take over Partey. Again, to help us with retention. I think with these two players, the focus is about helping us retain more possession. Leave the risk to the front 3 and Odegaard
Fresneda: gives us flexibility to invert on the right and use Kiwior on the right if needed.

Claudius I think we also need a set of backups for our frontline - I don't think Nelson can step in if Saka is injured or unavailable. I'd go for someone like Lee Kang-in and Nicolas Jackson (assuming his fitness can be satisfactorily established) - both should be relatively inexpensive and can be financed with outgoings such as Nketiah and Balogun.

I do worry about the frontline’s versatility. I am comfortable with their overall ability to score goals but we saw how acity escaped the press by often lumping the ball to Haaland against us. I would like variety but I don’t think it helps us to have another Nketiah or Balogun. The end of the season was very instructive. Basically as soon as we lose multiple top tier players simultaneously, we are no longer the best team Jon the land. There’s no point in getting more 2nd tier players. We need to reinforce the core with more elite players. Protect our downside

With Xhaka leaving and Partey and Elneny’s health - the main play for me is Rice AND Caicedo. That Caicedo can also play right back in an emergent y I’d also helpful. .

Could not agree more with this.

I reckon stylistically the likes of Rice and Caicedo help compensate for the loss of the more technical ones, because they can simply compete and make us harder to beat. They also open up a ton of possibilities in terms of what we can do - whether it be playing Caicedo or Partey as right sided versions of Zinchenko or how we line up in midfield.

Most importantly though, I reckon they'll allow us to evolve and take a few more risks, whether that means committing the likes of Saka and Martinelli a little further up the pitch or being able to be even bolder with our passing and committing of numbers forward, knowing that when we give it away we have a few players who will quickly mop up.

I hope that's the way we go rather than going for an 8/10 hybrid for that left 8 role.

Valladolid got relegated. I'm sure Fresneda was available before if we really wanted him, but he should be even more available now.

Last summer we signed Marquinhos on June 10th then Vieira a couple of weeks after. Jesus signed in early July.

Gurgen Barca still sound desperate for him, Xavi & Busquets mentioning him by name recently. Sure I read he wants to stay another season as Sociedad have qualified for the CL. With £80m+ being branded about for Caicedo this guy for £50m would make a lot of sense.
