Yeah, there is a Spanish phrase "No pasa nada" which is usually used in response to the question "Que pasa?"
Que pasa? - What's happening?
No pasa nada - Nothing's happening.
I'd take the "nada" here as a contraction of that phrase. But I might be wrong.
