We signed Jorginho whilst he was deemed as past his best, so it would have been surprising to start him ahead of Partey. This season he's been pulling back the years, in which case it doesn't become 'weird' at all.

Qwiss I don’t want any cunts. I look at Bruno Fernandes. And the stuff he does has to be toxic, morale destroying for a young team. He cheats as a matter of course, barely puts in an effort on defense. And you see so many of the other players acting like him - there’s a meme of Rashford just watching an attacker stroll past him. Everyone needs to be serious, disciplined, focused. Pool, City and Arsenal are like that from top to bottom. No idiots.

Claudius I was probably in a minority at the time but I never wanted Suarez for these reasons as I felt anything he achieved for us would have been tainted by the cheating, violent and racist ways he would have got there.

About 5 years ago, I wanted to punch the majority of our players in the face - not Saka, obviously. Now though, Mikel has not only given us a quality team, but a team largely full of humble, likeable professionals. The idea of cheering on that absolute arsehole leaves me utterly cold.

I think I had a "Zero dickheads?" thread a while back after the clearout was well underway. Fully agree anyway, it was painful during that spell when so many of our regulars were passengers, grifters and morons.

Think it's more to do with his fitness and availability. Reports say he's carrying a hip problem, and needs to be managed carefully.

Jorginho is being carried by Rice. Simple. He was a stop-gap signing and he's being used as a stop-gap. He's playing for his last big payday and a chance at a PL trophy, but he's fundamentally a liability. He's a beneficiary of our good form, not the cause.

Coombs think this is an odd take if I understand what you're saying. Because he plays in central midfield, I don't think he needs to have the same strengths as the players he's rotating with to be seen as effective. Personally, I think his ability in possession has given us more control in games than playing with Partey ever has done. Additionally, I think the way we set up in midfield varies substantially depending on whose playing, which is an intentional choice by Arteta to enable variety (ie. I don't expect him to do the same as Partey did).

Aside from one slip on the ball against Spurs, I don't think there's been much evidence to suggest Jorginho is "fundamentally a liability" since he joined us. If anything, he's been a net positive, especially in the big games we've played since he signed. Of course, he's been helped by Rice's ability to get around the pitch, but Rice has been helped by Jorginho's craft - that's partnership.

He's been overrun many times since signing for us. The Spurs mistake is still inexcusable, he'll have to score the winner in the next NLD to make up for it, but it is far, far from the only time he's been found wanting.

Rice needs George far less than the inverse. His passing is obviously good, although that was never in question. He's a bit of a joke in many aspects of his game, and it's totally deserved. Sure, the podcasters have started on the typical hype-train history rewrite, but even his teammates know that he's desperately limited.

Like I said, I have an agenda. Can't stand this guy. So take my ranting with a heaping teaspoon.

Coombs speaking of his teammates, I think they were making fun of him when he got back to the bench about how slow he was while trying to recover on the Willock goal. He struggled so much that ESR had to try to help, but then ESR also lost his man... He's a liability in that regard, yes. He's an old man. Pace /athleticism was never his strongest attribute even in his prime. RTC gets it right when he talks about him and Rice being a good partnership- each covers for the weaknesses of the other.

QuincyAbeyie fair but I just don't think Partey has ever ended up being consistently useful. Had a good patch last season but otherwise I think he's been a bit disappointing.

And if it's not clear, I think Jorginho has been consistently useful.

flobaba agree with you and RTC. There is no passer on the team like Jorginho. Not even Partey. And it relieves Rice of being that instigator, which he hasn’t developed to the level of Jorginho/Partey, so he can drive and press. Rice is like 2 players. Having him higher up the field has to be intimidating for opposing defenders.
