Do agree here. I wonder how much of that is down to Lakonga’s happiness at present. He wasn’t shy at letting his teammates know about his displeasure of a lack of minutes in the Prime documentary.

James I've wanted Lokonga to go on loan, he definitely needs it but we are short. Lokonga out with Caicedo in and Elneny fit would have been a much better situation.

Hopefully what this means is that they are pretty confident ESR will be fit enough to contribute when needed despite his recent niggles.

James Yeah, this is my reading of it too - the signals he's been giving off suggest he isn't all that happy and the club must know what whatever happens in the summer, he needs game time.

Lokonga move is the right move. He must go away and play weekly otherwise he will collapse. We have Partey, Jorginho, Xhaka, Kiwior and maybe others who can try the DLP role

Pepe LeFrits he's not trusted and is clearly unhappy. The way he walked off after City tells you all you need to know. We saw with Pepe that we're willing to let people go even if it doesn't make sense numbers wise.

Not that he's played any minutes but have seen reports that Matt Smith is heading out too.

Part of me would love to bring Patino back into the fold but consistent playing time at Blackpool is probably more valuable to his development.

Don Pacifico yeah I feel the same way with Balogun too. And TBH right now Patino would probably be more in competition with Vieira than anyone else.

We get bullied by Chelsea all window and end up PAYING THEM MONEY for a player they want to get rid of, with Edu clearly doing a favor we'll never get back in return.
He's a nasty piece of work that is hard to support for his cheating and on-pitch antics, regardless of who he plays for. He's slow as molasses and barely has anything left at the highest level.
Someone with all of the above is going to be the guy we have to tolerate when rapey Tom can't play. I wanted to see us move away from Partey by signing someone who could legitimately surpass him, not cement him as our only option for the rest of the season.

I couldn't care less about his fucking ball progression. Fuck this little rat right out of my club.

These are all reasonable concerns for any fan and human.

The only encouragement I can give is that we will find it much easier to get a replacement in the summer. The club knows it needs to move away from Partey - Xhaka. By all accounts they want Declan + 1

It does seem strange to loan out Lokonga in our position when we could keep him for insurance, but I would guess he's low on confidence and/or his attitude is off right now, to the extent that he's just not going to be much use at all. As I think we saw last Friday against City.

We have Partey/Jorginho, Xhaka/ESR, and Ødegaard/Vieira. That's pretty damn strong, and a much better set of options than we had for the first half of the season given Elneny isn't half the player Jorginho is, ESR was out injured, and Vieira now has more minutes and (a bit) more muscle.

I love how suddenly when he's an Arsenal player he's being compared to Partey, even though any Arsenal fan who've watched them both would've laughed at that while he was a Chelsea player. Weird that none of us considered Jorginho to be among the best midfielders in the league this season.

QuincyAbeyie I think the point people are trying to make with the data, is that it’s not as disastrous some are making it out to be, and there are still clearly some strengths to his game that will suit us.

QuincyAbeyie I don’t think anyone realistically is now either. The stats boffins are just showing that perhaps it’s not as bad statistically as we might expect. I don’t think it’s a great signing, and certainly massively disappointing compared to what we hoped for, but we’re in a better place now than on 1st January.

As far as Lokonga goes, I’m not sure he’d have contributed much if called upon with the pressure that would have been heaped upon him. It might have been the making of him, but more likely I think we’d have collapsed with him having an important role in midfield and he would have written himself into oblivion. It’s a good move to get him out. I’d rather he was out building some value and at worst we can tinker around with some players/positions in a worst case ontario.

Signing Jorginho is clearly better than not signing anyone. He is competent backup for Partey and we can then look again in the summer.
