DiabyKungFu city did often take Zinchenko off though, as I learnt through my fantasy football interest. They didn't have him as the mainstay we have.

DiabyKungFu Pep pointed out many times this season that their main improvement came because they played with real defenders at fullbacks rather than Zinchenko or Cancelo.

Even during his pre UCL match interview with CBS he mentioned this again with Henry, and then during post match at BT he said it again thats the difference that won them the treble.

Yeah. The big problem with Zinchenko is the same as the big problem with Partey; you can't reasonably rely on him to play more than 2500 minutes a season. Just as it makes sense that we're looking at a Partey replacement (though it seems a bit rich to me and I really don't get why it's the absolute number one priority), you could reasonably make the same argument for Zinchenko. Pretending that he isn't a really good player, though, is quite silly.

Sergio Gomez being unplayably bad, Joao Cancelo losing his mind and trying to fight Pep and Aymeric Laporte getting injured right before the end of the transfer window meant that City unexpectedly wound up with a glut of CBs and a dearth of FBs. Pep did a great job of cooking a meal with the ingredients he had but I really don't think you need to take the notion that this represents some high-minded philosophy of how football is meant to be played too seriously.

Tam ww clearly had defensive weaknesse with Zinchenko and teams targeted him late in the season. But a large part of why we were able to get to first in the league is that he was our most ball dominant player, catching defenses off guard when he added numbers and directness to our midfield. The guy was a game changer.

It will be interesting to see what Arteta does with Zin next season to keep things interesting for opponents. We saw Kiwior in left back assignments. We could use Kiwior like White and use Zin in midfield, for example, if game state requires.

But I’m a big believer in leaning into your strengths. We should look to dominate the ball and be even more aggressive about recoveries next season.

Claudius this is why I thought he'd play Rice in Xhakas position. The idea of having Zinchenko in the team with Ode and Havertz in midfield sounds very open to me

Don't think he's ready to walk into this Arsenal team and replace Partey. If we get Lavia I'd like to keep Partey for at least another season.

We're getting dense Vaseline money for Partey. Good money for Xhaka, and offloading a bunch of hanger ons. We are in the champions league. We spent almost 200million last season, when we weren't in the CL. And 150mill the season before that. If we want Caicedo, we will get Caicedo.

I'd love to be wrong, but I just can't see it. It's unprecedented at this club. I'm not concerned about Kroenke's money either, it's FFP that's the problem. The fact that we've spent liberally the last two years without CL football is all the more reason why it feels unlikely given that they use a 3 year window to make the assessment on allowable losses.

Unless we get more from sales than I'm expecting - I fully expect a budget Caicedo.

We still have Jorginho and Rice will probably play there too, so we can ease him in. But yeah, it feels risky.

Qwiss if this happens we need to get our midfield transfers sorted before pre season. We’re changing the foundation of our team and these guys need as much time on the training ground to get up to speed with how we play

goon this but I also believe there are limits to how much the Kroenkes will put in. They don't need a football club to cleanse their money/image in the same way other owners do (the loans they gave the club during COVID are debts with interest).

Don Pacifico on the other hand, he’s tasted success as a team owner. That sort of thing is addictive. He’s recently won with his NFL team, with his NBA team, with his NHL franchise. I am 100% certain he’ll desire success with Arsenal, and sooner rather than later. Our team is ready now. I’m confident he will recognize that and invest as needed.

Don Pacifico The loans they gave the club restructured the existing debt we had for the stadium at a much better interest rate and more reasonable covenants. We've matched Man City on spend since 2019 even though we didn't have CL football.

Mirth right but that investment wasn't 'free' money. I'm not saying they're bad guys but they're also not looking to pump endless money into the club.

My take on the spending to this point was that it was with the assumption of getting back into the CL by a certain point so that longer term we're able to generate more cash. My point is, they were calculated investments in our future but ultimately, I think they're trying to set the club up to be financially self-sustaining (which is not a bad thing).
